Also known as the King of the Brown Sound, Little Joes actual name is Jose Maria DeLeon Hernandez. Born in Temple, Texas on October 17, 1940; this child of Hernandez family was always inclined towards music.
While in his teens, Joe joined his cousin band David Coronado & The Latinaires as a guitarist and played his first music performance at a high school Sock Hop in 1955 for just five dollars.
Little Joe surpassed many phases to become the star he is today. From his humble start in a band to go solo; he has worked really hard. The 1958 released recording debut of the Latinaires pointed at the potential of their music. Joes cousin David Coronado left the band a year later resulting in Joes young brother Jesse taking over the band and renaming it to Little Joe & The Latinaires.
The accidental death of Jesse in 1964 made Joe to carry forward the band while retaining the same name. While he vowed on his brothers grave to take his musical journey forward, none would have imagined that the name Little Joe & The Latinaires would soon became the hottest name in the business.
The decade of 1960s saw Joe signing with various record companies and also establishing his into his own independent labels. These published both for Spanish and English recordings under the names Buena Suerte Records and Good luck Records respectively. During the 70's and 80's, Little Joe gave many hits and played in many concerts in San Francisco and the bay area.
What followed in later years put The Little Joe in the forefront of music industry. His albums were highly hailed by the critics and the fans alike. We won Grammy Award for Dies y Seis De Septiembre in 1991 in the category of Best Mexican-American Performance. This was followed by several Grammy nominations including Que Paso and Little Joe 2000.
Now, after five successful decades in the world of music, Joe has truly proven his mettle in his field. More famous as Little Joe than Hernandez, this man is the king of music. He has composed around 50 albums as yet including many international hits. He has won Grammy and also received the state of Texas Governor's Award for artistic excellence. Not to forget many Tejano Music Awards that he has received till yet.
