Little Hurricane's music has been gaining popularity in San Diego's music scene ever since their debut in 2010. The band kicked off when drummer CC and front man Tone met through Craigslist. Identifying their mutual passion for music, the two instantly got along and began mixing dirty blues together. Inspired by soul stems from Santa Cruz, the band also draws its inspiration from legendary bands and artists like Dead Weather, Gorrilaz, Paul Simon and the Beatles. With a common interest of traditional instruments, both the members have incorporated their sounds perfectly well in their music.
The Hurricane has also earned a lot of critical acclaim for their live performances. With the use of harmonica and mandolin, the band produces a unique amalgamated sound, which gives them a distinctive edge over other modern artists and which oozes to the hearts of the audience during their live shows. Nonetheless, their sound is centered on restless rhythms, which are most noticeable in their debut album, "Homewrecker".
The singles from the album, Give Em Hell and Crocodile Tears are ideal examples of their unique style. Released in April 2011, the album was produced with the Paradigm agency. Perhaps their finest work to date; the band members bagged many awards for this album, including awards for the "Best Alternative Album" as well as for the "Album of the Year" at the San Diego Music Awards in August. The single, "Haunted a Heart" even earned the number fifth spot on the iTunes "Blues Charts" and was featured on the hit TV Show, "Gossip Girl". Another track from this album, Get By was featured on the ABC Drama, "Revenge".
Recently, Little Hurricane has been in spotlight for its early 2014 tour, along with John Butler Trio. The band has even released an album, "Gold Fever" with the Death Valley Records that has garnered a lot of support from the fans. Focused on raw sonic sound, the music of this album has been produced with analog equipments. The change was well received by the critics, mainly because the music managed to maintain the bands cheerfulness, determination and independence.
Even though Southern California is rather notorious for its folk singers and hippies, the band has not strayed too far from its original style, which was set in their debut album, "Homewrecker". While Tone Catalano has done an outstanding job in showcasing his skills with electric guitar in the track, Summer Air, the track Sheep in Wolves Course, although slightly different than the bands original style, has been a hit. Not only this, the track Breathe is one where the lights are dimmed and everything becomes peaceful. A sweet, folk duet, the song enchants listeners with the impeccable female vocals of CC Spina.
