The California native, Leah Turner has recently started her career as a country and Western music artist. She spent her childhood on a farm with chickens, goats and horses in the Morongo Valley. The West Coast cowgirl was exposed to a distinct Western style growing up. Her father was a championship winning rodeo.
The occupation of her father greatly influenced the musical taste of Leah in her early years. She was greatly influenced by the music of Willie Nelson, Chris Ledoux, Loretta Lynn, Paul Overstreet, Merle Haggard, George Strait and Trisha Yearwood. This child prodigy started writing and singing songs when she was six. She used to sing hymns on her way back from church, which marked the beginning of her aspiration to become a successful musician.
Leah sung before renowned singer and songwriter, Kenny Loggins when she was attending a songwriting class at the University of California. It was Kenny who convinced Leah to move to Los Angeles to pursue her career professionally. Acting upon his advice, Leah took the leap and moved to LA where she was paired with Beverly, the wife of record producer Humberto Gatica. She met Gatica by-chance and got the opportunity to work with renowned producers.
Once her demo was approved, she began her journey with David Foster and Humberto Gatica. Her association with Gatica did not work out in the long run so in 2012, she moved to Nashville. After spending five successful years in LA, Leah returned home to her passion, country music.
In 2013, Leah signed up with Columbia Records Nashville. She released her debut single titled "Take the Keys". She co-penned the track with Jesse Frasure and Cary Barlowe and co-produced it with Jim Catino. The song made it to the Billboard 'Country Airplay' chart at number sixty. Matt Bjorke of Roughstock appreciated the talent of this aspiring artist and gave her four and a half out of five rating. Matt specially praised the vocals, which he said are powered via speakers as well as tuneful melodies that make you stop and listen. Chelsea Lewis writes in her review at TheCelebrityCafe.com that Leah is on the go to prove that being gritty as well as glamorous is something that she can carry comfortably. She flaunts her husky vocal style in her single “Take The Keys” which is backed up by catchy lyrics, showcasing her writing skills. With the industry that is becoming more and more mainstream now-a-days, Leah's song brings a refreshing change.
As per the review in NashvilleGab.com, this ranch girl has hit the high road to stardom. The four minute track "Take the Keys" draws traditional influences fromLorretta Lynn to Mary Chapin Carpenter.
