Born on May 16, 1974, in Faenza, Ravenna, in Northern Italy, Laura Pausini is the elder daughter from the two daughters of Fabrizio Pausini and Gianna Ballardini. Being raised in the town of Solarolo, Laura, at the age of eight, started to sing in local piano bars with her musician father Fabrizio. When she was only thirteen, she received her first recording experience with her semi-professional release album 'I Sogni Di Laura' (which translates into English as 'Laura's Dreams') that had been produced by her father in 1987. It wasn't until 1993 when her career instigated on winning upon the esteemed Italian Sanremo Music Festival with one of her best songs, La Solitudine. The young sensation soon signed a contract with Warner Music Italy and released a self-titled debut album - 'Laura Pausini', in 1993. The album was a huge success in Italy, France, and also in The Netherlands. In the following year, 1994, she released her second studio album, entitled 'Laura', which was also a hit, and due to which her company planned to ask her to sing in Spanish as well, hoping to triumph over the music market in Spain and Latin America too. By the end of that year, Laura had released her first Spanish album - 'Laura Pausini' (Spanish), which comprised 10 adapted versions of hit songs from her first two Italian CDs. The album received huge success, and resulted in making her a media magnet in the Hispanic and Latin world. The song "Se Fue" from this album became a super hit in the Hot Latin Chart of Billboard, in 1995, and the Billboard hailed her as only second to Mariah Carey, and also the female singing sensation of 1994, which ultimately led her to win the Lo Nuestro prize in May, 1995, Miami, FL. She became to be known as the greatest promising Romance language singer to hit the U.S. music charts. After receiving so much of the success, Laura started to release both Italian and Spanish versions of each album, such as 1996's 'Le Cose Che Vivi', 1998's 'La Mia Risposta', and 2000's 'Tra Te E Il Mare'.
After releasing her first English single, a version of the hit La Solitudine, in 1995, entitled The Loneliness, Laura Pausini participated in a few soundtracks of different movies, until 2002, when she released her first English album, 'From the Inside', under the label of Atlantic Records. The first and the second single of this album, Surrender and If That's Love, both received immediate success, and topped at the Billboard charts at #1. In the following years she released many other albums, and the albums which she also released in Spanish, such as 'Escucha', earned her a Latin Grammy and a Grammy in 2005.
This music sensation has managed to sell more than 26 million records world-wide and has more than 160 Platinum albums. In addition, a Diamond album has also been rewarded to her. Pausini has also received several other awards, including two World Music Awards, several I.F.P.I.
