Kodo debuted at the Berlin Festival in 1981, where they were applauded for bringing the traditional Japanese art across the boundaries. Since then till now, the troupe has given several performances all across the world and every time they proved super-hit.
The decade of 1980s witnessed the rise of Kodo performers. They traveled in Italy, San Marino, West Germany, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, France, Switzerland, Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Holland and other areas of the world where they established their name and art.
The troupe gave a splendid performance in Los Angeles Olympics Arts Festival in 1984 which was followed by a successful American tour in 1985 where they performed in venues like Kennedy Center and a gates-shattering act in Edinburgh Festival.
The mid of eighties saw the Kodos art rocking the Japan Week festival and Bali Arts Festival in Indonesia in 1986 followed by a two weeks sold-out performance at Sadler's Wells, London and gracing the Berlin 750th anniversary at Berlin Philharmony Hall, Germany.
While the Americans had another taste of wonderful Kodo act in 1988 where the troupe entertained the crowd with one week sold-out performance in New York City Center, the Australians also enjoyed the pleasures of their drumming during their 200th anniversary celebrations.
The Kodo people ended the decade with the opening of Kodo Village and happening of 1st annual Earth Celebration international arts festival on Sado Island that they still grace till date. The troupe also founded firstKodo Juku drum workshop in 1989 that was aimed to transfer this great art to future generations.
Came 1990s and the whole world saw Kodo as the ambassadors of Japanese Art. The troupe opened the decade by receiving Gold Disc Award for Japanese classical music for their CD Irodori. The show graced the Close-up of Japan festival in the first couple of years of 90s.
In 1994, Kodo received the MIDEM Music Video Award at the 3rd International Visual Music Festival in Cannes and also got Japanese Foreign Ministry award for contribution to exports through Earth Celebration and overseas tours. From its amazing 1st Carnegie Hall appearance to the sold out 2-day Greece concert with 9000 audience, the troupe literary ruled the hearts throughout the decade.
The Kodo welcomed the new millennium with ever-increasing spirit and popularity. With their performance in Nobel Peace Prize 100th Anniversary Concert in 2001, the troupe gave some of their most memorable appearances during FIFA World Cup 2002 including ones at cultural events, official concerts and other festivities.
They also released their FIFA 2002 World Cup TM Official Anthem CD that proved as successful as their live shows. Other releases of Kodos acts include 2004 One Earth Tour Special, 2005 Prism Rhythm and Kodo 25th Anniversary CD Heartbeat all released on Sony Records.
