Kenny Wayne Shepherd has a discography filled with commercially and critically successful blues albums. A self–taught guitarist, he was born to a concert promoter and radio personality with a large collection of music. At the age of three, he began playing plastic guitars, bought for him by his grandmother. By the age of seven, he started playing the guitar with earnest, after meeting Stevie Ray Vaughan in a 1984 concert promoted by his father.
Shepherd used his father's music collection to learn the intricacies of guitar playing. In 1990 he officially kicked off his music career and debuted as a professional musician and singer.
From 1995 onwards, Kenny Wayne Shepherd went on to release seven Top 10 hits on various charts. His album, Trouble Is, holds the record for being the Billboard Blues Chart's Longest Running Album.
In 1996, he collaborated with Noah Hunt, with whom he worked on songs like Blue on Black. Shepherd has received a number of awards during the course of his career, including five Grammy Award nominations, two Blues Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and two Orville H. Gibson Awards.
In 2007, Shepherd released 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads, a DVD CD project that received two Grammy Award nominations. This release was followed by a Bbackroads Tour, in which Shepherd interviewed some of the last authentic musicians in blues music, along with members of the Double Trouble Band. During this tour, Shepherd played with the likes of Bryan Lee, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Buddy Flett, Jerry McCain, B. B. King, Neal Pattman, Cootie Stark, Henry Townsend and Honey Boy.
In 2008, Fender released a Shepherd signature guitar, called the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Signature Series Stratocaster, which was designed specifically for the Louisiana blues musician.
Aside from his famous 2007 tour in which he met some of the most legendary musicians in blues, Shepherd has also gone on a number of highly successful tours and shows. Shepherd has also opened for iconic acts such as Van Halen, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan and the Eagles, during their Hell Freezes Over Tour.
In 2010, he appeared live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, playing a replica of Jimi Hendrix's Stratocaster guitar, the same one Hendrix had played live with at his iconic Woodstock concert.
