The renowned artist has been passionate about music since he was a child. Brown claims to have learnt how to play the piano from his father even before he learnt how to talk. He started his musical career in 1960 though he did not release any official album or single until 1974. Brown played at small clubs, pubs, gigs and parties which polished his skills further. He also discovered the songwriter within him while playing and singing all those years during the 60s and 70s. He then realized that in order to make it to the industry, he must strive harder. It was then that he started hanging out with songwriters and musicians which eventually led to his breakthrough in the music industry.
A unique characteristic of Brown which sets him apart from other musicians of the era is that not only does he have a strong command over country music but he is equally good at playing other genres as well. His work ranges from hard rock to pop, western to jazz, Hawaiian to rock and roll to blues and even Mariachi. Such diversity in musical genres is rarely found in the compositions of one artist.
To date Brown has recorded eleven studio albums and many of them have found their place in the US Country Music charts and also the US Heat charts. He also has four singles and four music videos, all of which have received warm reviews. Two of his singles ‘Highway Petrol’ and ‘My Wife Thinks You’re Dead’ have made it to the Billboard Country Music charts. His music video for ‘My Wife Thinks You’re Dead’ also won him the Country Music Association Award for ‘Music Video of The Year’ in 1996.
Junior Brown also had the privilege to work along with Hark Thompson on his album Real Thing. Both of them worked on the song ‘Gotta Sell Them Chickens’ and released it in 1997. Though the song did not manage to reach any music chart but still it did fairly well and was appreciated by the fans and critics. Apart from that, Brown has made video and record appearances with The Beach Boys, George Jones and Stone Temple Pilots.
Not only has Brown’s music won him a dedicated fan following all over the world but his music has also been featured in various popular movie soundtracks and television shows. Some of them include the cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants, the American comedy film Me, Myself And Irene and the 2005 remake of the movie Dukes of Hazzard in which Junior Brown played the part of the narrator. He has also been a part of some popular nationwide ad campaigns such as that of Lipton Tea, Lee Jeans and The Gap.
The super star has been nominated for the Grammy Awards not once but three times. He has also been honored with the Bluegrass Music Association Award with the mega star Ralph Stanley. Also, in the year 2006, Brown accompanied the famed celebrity Bob Dylan on his third tour of the American Minor League Baseball stadiums. This is an honor which few people are bestowed with and Junior Brown is one of those few lucky ones.
