Joan Rivers is an American standup comedian who is also known as a TV personality and an actress who has starred in many films. She was born in Brooklyn within New York City and has been part of the world of entertainment since 1950 and is easily one of the oldest entertainers and comedians today in America. It was in the late fifties that she entered the world of showbiz when she starred in the play Driftwood alongside Barbra Streisand. This was then followed by a performance at The Second City, a comedy club located in the city of Chicago. In the sixties, Joan Rivers became popular and appeared several times on The Tonight Show and The Ed Sullivan Show. She had a role in several films including The Swimmer and also released two comedy albums. In the seventies, she became a popular YV personality starring in various comedies and appearing on many shows. As a writer, she wrote The Girl Most Likely To and Rabbit Test, a film which she also directed. By the eighties, she was also a headliner at many of the best American venues including the Las Vegas Strip and was a regular guest host of the The Tonight Show under Johnny Carson. She was also the host of Saturday Night Live and released another Best Selling Comedy Album which ranked at the top of the Billboard 200 charts and received a Grammy Award nomination as the Best Comedy Album.
 
In 1984, Joan Rivers established herself as an acclaimed author and humorist when she published the best-seller The Life and Hard Times of Heidi Abramowitz. She became so famous that she was impersonated by the likes of Frank Marino and was the host of her own show, The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers, on Fox. She was also the host of The Joan Rivers Show which led to her winning an Emmy Award and also the host of several E! Entertainment TV show for the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. Joan Rivers then went on star in the popular TV series, Nip/Tuck, and started her own line of jewelry known as the The Joan Rivers Collection. She was one of only four Americans who took part in the wedding of Camilia Parker Bowles and Prince Charles.
 
In 2008, Joan Rivers was part of Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack and also Celebrity Family Feud on NBC. In 2009, she was one of the contestants on Celebrity Apprentice. In 2010, a documentary on her life titled as Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work was released. She starred in a Super Bowl XLV commercial the same year for Go Daddy. When it comes to awards, she has won an Emmy Award, Tony Award nominations, Drama Desk Award nominations and was one of the Top 50 comedians voted as having the best comedy acts ever by comedians.
