Jesse McCartney grew up in Westchester, New York and began playing music at a young age, starting with performing in musicals while seven years old. At the age of ten, he joined The King and I’s national tour, alongside Ricky Ullman, best known as the star of Phil of the Future. He became one of the first artists to win several awards at the Teen Choice Awards, including those for the Breakout Artist, Crossover Artist and Male Artist. He kicked off his first tour in 2005, visiting many American cities, as well as visiting cities in Australia, Europe and performing with the Backstreet Boys. He would go on to contribute music to many Disney movies and shows, including Disneymania 2, A Cinderella Story, Radio Disney Jingle Jams, That's So Raven, Lizzie McGuire Total Party!, Stuck in the Suburbs, Disneymania 3, Radio Disney Jams, Sydney White, Vol. 7, Vol. 8, Radio Disney Jams, DisneyMania 4 and Hannah Montana.
In 2008, he released his third album, dubbed Departure, which ranked tenth on the Billboard Hot 100, with one of its songs certified platinum and selling more than two million copies on iTunes.
