JAS was held for the very first time back in 1991 and this year it'll be entering its twenty fourth season. The very first JAS event was inspired by the renowned sister event that took place in France near the hills of Gascogne Hills. One of the JAS Festivals held during the month of June was staged at the Rio Grande Park in Aspen under a huge canopy tent. However, ever since 2009 the event is being held at the Benedict Music Tent. The June Festival has grown over from being a four-day festival to a ten-day festival with opening performances being held at the Benedict Tent. This series of opening performances is then followed by private and public performances which finally leads to a closing weekend performance at the Benedict Tent in collaboration with AMFS.
The Labor Day Festival takes place at the Snowmass Town Park in an open-air environment, surrounded by the Elk Mountain Range. This open-air jazz extravaganza features various genres of music including soul, blues, world music, pop, R&B, rock and funk. The Labor Day Festival lasts for three days, during which time it attracts more than 10,000 people each day.
JAS has been known for bringing the world class live music in its intimate and natural setting. It also offers unparalleled hospitality to both its artists and audiences. It also offers VIP and corporate tent programs which offers live performances of recognized jazz musicians. JAS attracts a large volume of audience members from all over the Rocky Mountain and its surrounding regions.
The JAS June Festival is home to world class jazz musicians who come to perform at the Benedict Music Tent during this four-day festival. The festival features headlining concerts by some of the biggest names from jazz music industry. Quite recently, JAS Café Downstairs has also become a part of the summer festival apart from the winter festival. JAS Café initially started off as a place for three monthly concerts during the winter season back in 2010. As the demand grew over the years, the JAS Café series was expanded to host 8 weekends of performances in winter and 7 weekends of performances in summer. The JAS Café offers world-class jazz performances by artists from all over Italy, Cuba, Africa, Brazil, New Orleans and France. Apart from a diverse array of performers, the JAS events also attract a large diverse group of audience members to Aspen as well.
The JAS June festival has also expanded to feature a Free Lawn Party. The event features free music, food, drinks and dancing for the entirety of the community. Each year, Free Lawn Party features top of the line jazz musicians and this year it won't be any different.
