Jake Shimabukuro is a spectacular American ukulele artist, regarded as the finest ukulele player in American today. Originating from Honolulu, Hawaii, he has been an active part of the ukulele music scene since 1998 and his music is best described as a mix of rock and jazz. Jake Shimabukuro became fond of the ukulele when his mother gave him the instrument at the age of four. He then joined the band Pure Heart through which he gained fame, performing alongside guitarist Jon Yamasato and percussionist Lopaka Colon. The band then released its first album which led to them winning four Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, the Hawaiian Grammy Awards. Pure Heart won awards for the Island Contemporary Album of the Year, the Album of the Year, the Most Promising Artist of the Year and the Favorite Entertainment of the Year. A second album was released during the following year and titled as Pure Heart 2. It led to them winning the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for the Island Contemporary Album of the Year. After guitarist Yamasato left the group, Jake Shimabukuro and percussionist Lopaka Colon formed another group known as Colon in tribute to Augie Colon, a famous percussionist. A new guitarist joined the group and the band went on to win the 2001 Hoku Award as the Favorite Entertainer of the Year.
Jake Shimabukuro then embarked on his solo career when he released Play Loud Ukulele, an instructional DVD on playing the ukulele. In 2006, he composed the entire soundtrack of the movie, Hula Girls, and then went on to perform live with Jimmy Buffett and his band, The Coral Reefer Band. This performance was featured on the DVD released titled as Live in Anguilla by Jimmy Buffett. In 2009, he performed at the world famous Royal Variety Show alongside Bette Midler, playing a version of In My Life by the Beatles. As a philanthropist, he is renowned as the spokesman for Music is Good Medicine, an organization that advocates on the importance of healthy lifestyle and promotes the arts and music.

In 2005, he came out with the album Dragon and in 2006, he released the album Gently Weeps. In 2007, he composed the Hula Girls movie soundtrack which was then released to public as well as an album titled as My Life. In 2009, he released the album 2009 and his latest album, Peace Love Ukulele was released in 2011.
