David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors fame is one of the headliners at the Huichica Music Festival. He is known for his harmonic and melodic approach to music, often using wide intervallic leaps and syncopation. As the bandleader of the Dirty Projectors, a Brooklyn rock band, he has written as well as produced critically acclaimed albums such as Rise Above, Bitte Orca and Swing Lo Magellan. He has collaborated with the likes of David Byrne, Diplo, Solange, Bjork and many more. Longstreth has also written music and scored for various other music outfits, including commissions for the likes of Bang On A Can, Alarm Will Sound, Calder Quartet and the Orchestral Society for the Preservation of the Orchestra. Longstreth is also a Grammy Award nominated visual artist and designer, renowned for his work on the Dirty Projectors LP.
Joining him on stage at Huichica will be Mount Eerie, an Anacortes, Washington band that plays indie folk and lo-fi music. It has been active since 2003 and releases music through P.W. Elverum & Sun Records. The band's only permanent member is Phil Elverum, with various other musicians working with the band on various records. Phil Elverum formerly performed with The Microphones but opted for the Mount Eerie name after the release of an album of the same name by The Microphones.
Elverum's first album in 2003 was a live album, titled Live in Japan. As Mount Eerie, he has released seven LPs, with the latest being 2013's Pre-Human Ideas. He has also released twelve EPs as well as numerous singles.
Elverum will share the stage at Huichica with Kelley Stoltz, an American singer, musician and songwriter based in San Francisco. He records music that many have compared to that of the Velvet Underground, Brian Wilson, Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen. Born in Michigan, Stoltz moved to New York City and then moved to San Francisco in the late nineties, kicking off his career in music.
Kelley Stoltz's first album was released in 1999 by Telegraph Records and was followed by a second self-released album in 2001. In 2003, Stoltz went on a tour of Australia and was featured on Mojo magazine the same year. In 2005, he was signed onto Sub Pop, and released a full length album in 2006. This album was an industry first, in that it used renewable energy and offset all electricity used with green tags from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. As the first truly environment friendly music album, it set a new bench mark in the industry.
You can listen to all these artists live on stage at the Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma after buying Huichica Music Festival tickets.
