Every year, the summer season is awaited with great excitement by people of all age groups for its festivities. This time, Wade Ford has arranged a summer concert series at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre and has named it the 'Hot Fun'. Lineup for the event has been recently announced and it will be featuring Mike Phillips, Ronnie Laws and Howard Hewitt. These artists are respected in the music industry for making quality contributions to R&B, Jazz and blues genres. Hot Fun tickets for the upcoming concert will entertain the audiences with amazing instrumental melodies that will make it their most memorable musical summer experience.
The Hot Fun festival plans to feature each artist separately with their collection of hit singles. Mike Phillips is the first one on the list of performers. It has been less than a decade since the artist showed up on the music front but his outstanding popularity has already crossed the borders. He is the proud winner of Billboard Music Awards in different categories. Phillips, along with a cadre of young musicians joined the industry in the nineties with an aim to revamp the traditional jazz music. It is his infusion of creativity and innovation along with the vocals that took Pop- Jazz to a new level.
Mike Phillips began his musical odyssey in New York at the age of five. After experimenting with an assortment of instruments including the violin, piano, trumpet and French horn, he focused on saxophone; since this was the only instrument that gave him the liberty to express his creative passion. By carefully honing his talents throughout the formative years, he mastered the technical skills and developed an understanding of the relationship between the audience and the musician. Mike explains this in words, 'Music is more riffs than tricks that you learn. For me, it's emotional and I want people to feel my music rather than just listen to it'.
When it comes to jazz music, the era of early nineties is remembered for Mike Phillip's first breakthrough performance. It was at the popular NYC Jazz and R&B hotspot, Wilson where the artist surprised everyone with his outstanding playing and singing abilities. He was readily given the offer to present at Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday and then the ball kept rolling, bringing in more contracts with well known recording companies.
Mike Phillips in the course of his career has the experience of performing with a number of well known artists like Jonathan Butler, Brian McKnight, Jill Scott and others. Apart from these pop/ jazz concert events, he has also hosted a number of jazz festivals including Capitol One Bowl, Black Ski Summit, Phoenix Open and others. The artist has received positive reviews for conducting and hosting festivals and concerts alike. Comments like, 'I was very impressed with Phillips and his commitment to music legacy. Also, he brings fine artists to share the stage.' are a common feature of Phillip's concert.
This year, Mike Phillips will be accompanied with other two well known jazz artists Ronnie Laws and Howard Hewitt. Both of them will present golden hits from the era of seventies and entertain the audiences with the traditional and contemporary R&B and jazz music.
