Hosted by the very talented and lively David Prather, the show includes performances of the ensemble Angeles Chorale and the very special Julie Andrews. As a wonderful host and narrator, Prather has appeared in a number of events and shows with LA Phil and this time he will be hosting Holiday Sing-Along for the seventh time. Apart from hosting shows, Prather is also known for creating and performing in programs such as Star-Spangled Poetry and Poetry Jam.
Synchronized to perfection, Angeles Chorale consists of hundred voices of singing professionals and choir veterans. The ensemble is famous for its deeply harmonized vocals and overwhelming group energy. With a mission to serve the diverse community of Los Angeles, Chorale has performed in a number of festivals and shows. Working under the artistic visions of John Sutton, the group is expert at reciting and singing holiday songs and poems.
Founded in 1975 by the name of Valley Master Chorale, the ensemble led many local events and festivals. Merging with the Masterworks Chorale in 1987, the group emerged as a fresh lineup of trained singers under the charismatic leadership of John Alexander. The choir was named Angeles Chorale in 1993. In 1996, Donald Neuen gave Chorale a new dimension when he took over as a new artistic director of the group. Under Neuen’s reign, Chorale became very popular for its seamless shows and headed many events in the following years.
Since 2009, John Sutton has emerged as a driving force and led the group to a new dimension of success with his music abilities. The Chorale has been a part of many tours and also performed with many renowned orchestras like Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Glendale Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic among many others. Besides singing in live orchestras and concerts, the Chorale has also sung in many of the famous Hollywood movies trailers’ choral scores. This holiday season, Angeles Chorale shares its talents with the well-renowned artist, Julie Andrews.
Actress, stage performer, singer, writer, director; are some of the attributes of this iconic artist, Julie Andrews, who has enjoyed an unparalleled stardom throughout her career. Her talent has won her numerous accolades including Grammy Awards, Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Emmy and Theatre World Award. Her honors include a star in Hollywood Walk of Fame and Kennedy Center Honor.
Starting her career as a child artist, Andrews has been active in theatre since 1945. She rose to fame after her debut in Broadway production The Boy Friend in 1954, for which she also won a Theatre World Award. After getting commercial and critical claim for her performances in popular stage productions My Fair Lady and Camelot, Andrews conquered the television world with her iconic role as Cinderella.
But that was just the start of her remarkable journey; Andrews stamped her unique identity on the big screen right after her debut in 1964 film Mary Poppins. The movie won her an Academy Award for the category of Best Actress. Next year, she was nominated for an Academy Award for her movie The Sound of Music. These two films are one of the highest grossing movies in the Hollywood history.
Experiencing ups and downs with her movie career in 1970s, she reclaimed in 1980s with her films like 10 and Victor Victoria. Struggling during 1990s, Andrews once again revived her career in 2000s with successful movies like The Princess Diaries and its sequel. In 2003, she returned to stage with the revival of her hit Broadway production The Boy Friend, this time as its director. Her voice works in popular films like Shrek and Despicable Me are some of her recent successful endeavors.
Besides co-authoring many child books with her daughter, Andrew is also an active philanthropist. In 2011 she won two Grammys including one for Lifetime Achievement. Coming together to celebrate this holiday season, Angeles Charles and Julie Andrews will be performing at LA Phil.
