Gnarls Barkley
American multi-instrumentalist and producer Brian Burton better known by his stage name Danger Mouse collaborated with another vocalist and rapper from Atlanta, Thomas Callaway better known as Cee-Lo Green, and named this musical collaboration, Gnarls Barkley.
Before collaborating with Danger Mouse, Cee-Lo Green made his entry in hip hop genre by being a member of a hip hop group called Goodie Mob.
Cee-Lo stayed an active member of the group until 1999, when the group released their third album, after that he went on as a solo act. Cee-Lo made his solo debut in 2002 as he released his first solo album that was followed by his second release in 2004.
Danger Mouse is known for producing for a number of renowned hip hop groups, including Gorillaz, for whom he produced their album titled Demon Days that went on to win a Grammy Award.
Danger Mouse fused samples from Jay Zs The Black Album and the Beatles White Album, and released his mash up Grey Album that earned him nationwide exposure.
Danger Mouse and Green met for the first time on Thomas Keenans tour in 2003, from which Danger Mouse was DJing. Afterwards the duo started working together and made several songs and compiled them on their debut album St. Elsewhere that was released in 2006.
In 2004, the duo also collaborated on and released another hit song What You Sittin On? Prior to the release of their first album, Burton named the duo, Gnarls Barkley. St. Elsewhere happened to be a commercial success and so was a song from that album titled Crazy.
The duo released its second studio album titled The Odd Couple on iTunes Music Store and Amazon MP3 on March 18, 2008. Prior to the release of the album, it was leaked earlier that month. The hard copies of the album were released on March 25, 08.
Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo Greens first album as a duo, St. Elsewhere, was originally scheduled to be named Who Cares? The titled Who Cares? was suggested by the duo as they were anticipating their release as a failure, and after the release of their album their anticipation was falsified by reality.
In UK the album was released on April 24, 2006 and it debuted and peaked at #1 spot on UK Albums Chart. Apart from that, Gnarls Barkleys first single from their album Crazy was extensively downloaded in UK and soon became UKs #1 Single.
In United States the album was initially released on iTunes Music, but later on May 9, 2006 the hard copy of the album was also released in US, where the album peaked at #4 spot.
Since their second album leaked out prior to its release, the duo initially decided to push the release date in April, but the album was made available on iTunes Music Store and Amazon MP3 on March 18, and it hit the selves in the music stores on March 25, 2008. Duos first hit single Crazy suffered the same fate as it was leaked in 2005 prior to its release.
