By the end of high school, he had chosen to purse a professional music career. Glenn enrolled at the University of Colorado in 1923. He usually spent time away from college and tried to play at any event he could get. Eventually he dropped out of the university and landed with "Joseph Schillinger" who taught him the "Schillinger technique" and helped him compose his future signature melody "Moonlight Serenade". Glenn started touring with various groups and in 1926 joined the group of the renowned bandleader Ben Pollack. He also worked on his own compositions and arrangements, which led him towards his first arrangement along with Benny Goodman known as "Room 1411". He went to New York and started working on a distinct sound that involved the harmonization of three saxophones within a single octave while a tenor saxophone held the same note as the clarinet play a melodic arrangement. Glenn hired a saxophonist "Wilbur Schwartz" who complemented Glenn's musical arrangements and unique sound.
