Girlyman
An American folk-rock band, Girlyman is noted for blending modern acoustic, americana, and folk-rock into a musical recipe. Girlyman enlists Nate Borofsky, Doris Muramatsu, and Ty Greenstein; all four hail from Atlanta, GA.

Today, the group is enjoying a strong national following of its own. They spend a lot of time criss-crossing the country, playing to intensely loyal girlyfans who often travel hundreds of miles to see shows.

Girlyman make use of a wide range of such instruments as acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, djembe, electric baritone guitar, reflecting an eclectic sound. To-date the group has sold tens of thousands of copies of its three studio albums.

While listening to Girlmans catchy melodies, its very hard to realize at first the group members subtle and complex harmonies and breathtaking lyrics. Prior to signing Amy Ray label, the groups self released debut album Remember Who I Am, sold 5,000 copies. The music record was re-released by Daemon Records.

Around this time, as headliners, Girlyman sold out renowned venues such as The Barns at Wolftrap, The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA. In 2004, Amy Ray signed the group to her indie label, Daemon Records. The following years brought Girlyman long opening runs with Dar Williams and the Indigo Girls.

The year 2004 also saw Girlyman releasing a compilations record called Viola. The following year brought a trip to Mexico, as well as Girlymans first tour in the United Kingdom. Since touring with the Indigo Girls, the band has become a national headlining act in its own right while growing legions of girlyfans frequently drive hundreds of miles to follow their favorites from show to show.

After intensive touring, the band returned to studios and appeared with their second full-length music record, Little Star, for the label in May 2005. The album offered several fine musical choices to the music-lovers.

Girlymans second album, Little Star, featured a collection of twelve original songs which were tied together by themes of love and war. In the album, the group harked back to the harmony-conscious folk-rock of the 1960s, while the songs dealt with longings for different places and times: from the butch in a small town of Young James Dean to the nostalgic television personality of On the Air.

Little Star was co-produced by the member of Girlymans themselves and engineer Bob Harris. The album also featured Julie Wolf of the Ani DiFranco band on accordion and keyboards, and Joe Dye on pedal steel. The next year, Girlyman released their second compilations record; they called it Young James Dean on New Arrivals: Volume One.

Girlyman continued amusing people with their music featuring harmony-driven style veers from urban folk to country to rock to calypso doo-wop. In 2007, the group came up with their third full-length album Joyful Sign. Co-produced with Bob Harris, Joyful Sign featured Girlymans folk/pop/bluegrass sound but with a sense of confidence, energy and spirit.

The music record showcased memorable, well-crafted songs, graced by the groups signature three-part harmonies. Joyful sign proved to be a big success and received positive reviews for it was a lively, harmony driven, feel-good-music record. Offering just the right sound for spring and early summer, the albums self titled song enforced happy-go-lucky feeling.

Joyful Sign reflected not just the year the members of Girlyman spent writing, arranging and playing the new songs at live shows, but also the grand old time they had in the studio making the CD. Girlybands fourth album, Somewhere Different Now, came out in 2008.

After seven years of living, playing and touring together, the chemistry between Doris, Ty, and Nate has never been more evident. New, unrecorded songs, covers, hilarious banter, and improvised ditties, Somewhere Different Now has it all.

The album contains a long list of good 29 tracks and 76 minutes of pure, unleashed Girlyman, with all their intensity, levity, and harmony. To-date the trio has sold over out major folk venues across the country, playing on internationally syndicated radio shows.

Tall classically trained members of Girlyman traded off their lead vocals and songwriting duties. A slew of instruments including acoustic guitar, banjo, baritone guitar, djembe and mandolin and stunning three-part vocal blend that creates the Girlyman magic.

Today, the group has earned the kind of loyal following that no record label can manufacture. The tightest, most beautifully, intricate and nicely unpredictable harmonies would make you hear Girlyman over and over again.
