Ghostland Observatory is Duo formed by Aaron Behrens and Thomas Ross Turner in 2004, based in Austin, Texas. Aaron Behrens provides with the vocals and occasionally plays guitar while Thomas Ross Turner plays drums and synthesizer and he is also the producer of Ghostland Observatory.
In their live performances the latter one is usually seen wearing a Cape, which has now become a part of his on stage Gimmick.Before both of them formed Ghostland Observatory that were the members of Waking Helix, and before becoming the part of Waking Helix Aaron Behrens was a former band member of Dismount.
The duo has not specified the genre of the music hence their music is hard to be classified, however according to their My Space profile, the duo of defined their music as "A Robot making love to the tree!!" However by different music reviewers their music is described as the fusion of rock, funk, electro and soul.
Their music is mainly influenced by the likes of Daft Punk, Bowie, Laurent Garnier, Green Velvet, The Animals, The Clash and LCD. Ghostland Observatory took the stage for the first and performed they first show on July 4, 2004.
After Ghostland Observatory signed a record deal with Trashy Moped Recordings, they released their debut album in 2005, titled "delete.delete.i.eat.meat" that was produced by Thomas Turner. The album contained 10 tracks including "Black Box", "Candy Rider", "Cause a Scene" and "Shoot em down".
After giving less than a year in the studio, the Ghostland Observatory came up with their second studio album titled "Paparazzi Lightning", which was released in January of 2006. This album was also comprised of 10 tracks including the title song, "Sad Sad City", "Piano Man" and "Midnight Voyage".
A video for the song "Sad Sad City" was also released. "Sad Sad City" was also performed by the duo on October 16, 2007, when they made their national television debut, as they appeared on 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien' on NBC. Also in 2007, the duo released its first Live DVD "Live from Austin Texas" after they performed on Austin City Limits.
Ghostland Observatory announced their third studio album Robotique Majestique during the Vegoose Music Festival; however the album was later released on March 4, 2008.
Like their previous two albums, this album also comprised of 10 tracks, with notable one being "Dancing on my Grave" and "No Place for me".
After the release of their third studio album, the duo has been on the move ever since to help promote their album through live performances.
The series of their live performances kicked off this month on October 14, 2008 at House of Blues in Houston, Texas and the proceeds from the tickets of this show went to Hurricane Relief fund.
Later through the year, Ghostland Observatory is scheduled to perform on October 16 at The Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles California, then the Fillmore in San Francisco, California the following day, they'll be hitting Crystal Ballroom on October 18 in Portland Oregon, then the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 25 and with the last show of the month going out on October 31st on South Padre Music Fest in South Padre Island, Texas.
Ghostland Observatory with be kick starting their series of live performances in the following month on November 7, as they'll be hitting The Metro in Chicago, Illinois.And then a week later on November 14, they'll be hitting Stubbs in the city of Austin, Texas, which also happens to be their current place of residency.
They'll be returning to the Stubbs yet again on the following day.The next stop on their nationwide tour would be The Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia on November 20, 2008, and they following day it will be The Cannery Ballroom in Nashville, Tennessee.
Duo's last live performance in the month of November will be on November 22, 2008 at Cains Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The series of live performances would be put to an end after giving out two live performances in the month of December.
One out of these two performances would be on December 12, 2008 at the Terminal 5 in New York City, New York and the final live performance of the current year would be on the following day at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C, Washington D.C.
