The members of Ghost B.C were previously a part of another band in 2006 and performed together. Without revealing any details of their past musical ventures, the nameless ghoul confirmed that it took them two years to finally assemble Ghost B.C. Each member has expressed his love for horror films in multiple interviews. The band claimed that, “we knew very early that to make this material work, we needed to fulfill our dream of putting a horror show together with music.” By 2008, the band’s mysterious persona and edgy songs were ready which earned them a record deal and their first live concert.
The lead vocalist, who calls himself Papa Emeritus II, wears a skull mask and dresses as a Roman Catholic cardinal. The other five instrumentalists that include a drummer, bass guitarist, rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist and keyboardist are known as the “Nameless Ghouls.” Even though their origin is Sweden, but Ghost B.C has gained popularity in several countries like UK, US, Finland, New Zealand, Germany and Australia. Their music incorporates doom metal, stoner rock and heavy metal genres. Many critics compare them with bands like Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Blue Oyster Cult.
By seeing their increasing fame and success, a number of record label companies have approached Ghost B.C. These include Seven Four Ent, Iron Pegasus, Metal Blade, Loma Vista, Rise Above and Trooper Ent. Their debut album, Opus Eponymous hit the shelves in 2010 receiving a Grammis Award nomination in the “Best Hard Rock” category which is equivalent to the Grammy Awards in their country. Many well-known magazines and internet publications like Loud Magazine Australia, Allmusic, The Washington Times, Decibel and Metal Forces wrote positive reviews about the album. The Sweden Rock Magazine named Opus Eponymous ‘one of the best records in the past decade’. Tracks including, “Elizabeth,” “Deus Culpa” and “Genesis” are some of their early hits.
2013 saw the release of their second full length album titled, Infestissumam. The record debuted at number one in Sweden and made it to the music charts in Norway, Finland and the US. Once again the critics have appreciated their musical approach, most of them giving the album four out of five stars. Allmusic described the record as, “weirdly effective” and called it a hell of a lot of fun. Songs like, “Secular Haze” and “Year Zero” are buzzing all over the media these days.
