Born on December 31, 1968 in Scarborough, Ontario, Gerry grew up in Toronto. Before making the switch to full time comedy in 2003, Gerry Dee was a physical education teacher and hockey coach at De La Salle College in Toronto.
Gerry Dee is of Scottish descent and attended and graduated from De La Salle in junior high and high school. In 1999, Dee walked away with Torontos Funniest New Comic competition. In 2001, he later taped his own half hour Comedy Now Special on CTV and The Comedy Network.
The following year, Dee became the first Canadian in 27 years to have won the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition. Other comics who got their start in this competition include Robin Williams, Dana Carvey and Ellen Degeneres to name a few.
Dee made his US network debut when he performed on CBS Star Search with Arsenio Hall in 2003. A year later he appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn as well as on The Mike Bullard Show.
The year 2004 saw Gerry Dee appearing in the CBS Sports reality series PGA Tour 18: Golfs Ultimate Round. Also, National Lampoon featured him in a DVD which was released that same year. He also was voted as the third best comedy show of 2004 in Toronto by Now Magazine. In 2004, 2006 and 2007 Dee was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Male Comic in Canada.
To-date, Dee has attended a variety of comedy festivals, namely The US HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and The Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. In the latter festival, he made his CBC Gala appearance in July 2004 and again in 2007. Dee has recently completed his tour to Scotland and South Africa.
Gerry Dees earlier education was at St. Gabriel Catholic School (Bayview/Sheppard), he later studied Kinesiology at York University. He also played Former Boston Bruins Winger Wayne Cashman in a CBC Mini series called Canada Russia 72. Long before being on Last Comic Standing, Dee was already relatively successful.
Dee might be best known for securing third position on the fifth season of Last Comic Standing. He had tried out for Last Comic Standing during the second and fourth seasons, but never advanced to the finals. Having his segment aired on Just For Laughs, Dee also appeared on the Comedy Network special The Nubian Disciples, and performed at the world famous Montreal International Comedy Festival.
Gerry Dee had also already had his own comedy special on The Comedy Network in Canada. Besides appearing in television commercials, Gerry has performed at many comedy clubs, including Just For Laughs and Yuk Yuks. He also had a role in the minor hit Trailer Park Boys: The Movie where he played the role of Donny.
Since late 2007, Gerry Dee has been a star of his own segment on Canadian cable channel The Score. The segment is entitled as Gerry Dee: Sports Reporter and it has Dee running around conducting humorous interviews and segments. These interviews include sports personalities; Cito Gaston and Randy Couture being the most notable ones.
In Gerry Dee: No Reading Ahead show, Gerry Dee takes aim at overachievers everywhere in this brand new, laugh-out-loud stand-up special. Dee has been leading the charge against those caught reading ahead from childhood and beyond.
