Fort Minor
The hip hop group Fort Minor was formed by Mike Shinoda of another famous rock band Linkin Park, as a side project. Mike Shinoda is the rapper and vocalist for Linkin Park and released his debut solo album The Rising Tied as Fort Minor, in 2005.
Remember The Name and Whered You Go were the two singles from the album, and the latter one also featured Jonah Matranga and Holly Brook.
Whered You Go also won Ring tone of the Year Award on MTV Music Video Awards in 2006. Also in the same year Fort Minor performed along with Linkin Park at Summer Sonic.
Another prominent hip hop figure, Jay Z, was the executive producer of the album, prior to that he also collaborated with Linkin Park in an album titled Collision Course.
On its standard release, Rising Tied featured 16 tracks; however, later a Limited Edition of the Album was also released that featured 3 bonus tracks. The lyrics of almost all the tracks on this album tell the story and life experiences of Shinoda and other rap artists who collaborated with him.
A track titled Slip out the Back also features Joe Hahn from Linkin Park. The Lyrics of their first single Remember the Name revolves around groups views on being in the music industry, while another track titled Kenji tells the story of what Shinoda and his family went through during World War II in Japan.
Fort Minor released its first video for the track Remember the Name in November, 2006. In the words of Shinoda him self the video for the song was nice wrap up for Fort Minor as it featured series of various feats. Later that year Shinoda turned his attention towards Linkin Park again putting Fort Minor on hiatus.
Fort Minors debut album and groups biggest release up till now, Rising Tied came out on November 22, 2005. Rising Tied was produced by Shinoda himself, while Jay Z was the executive producer of the album. The album was released on Machine Shop Recordings, which is Warner Bros. imprint label of Linkin Park.
Whered you go a single from the album earned the most mainstream success as compared to the other tracks from the album. A video for the track was also released in addition to the videos of the songs Believe Me, Remember the Name, and Petrified.
All in all album earned mild commercial success as it sold 400,000 copies world wide, while 250,000 units in United States only. The song Remember the Name also features another hip hop group, Styles of Beyond both in the song and the video.
A TV series The Fabulous Life Of on VH1 also featured a small sample from Fort Minors Petrified. Petrified was the first single from their album with Remember the Name.
Fort Minors fourth Single Whered You Go explains the feeling of being alone during the long distance relationships or when loved ones put their careers before their relationships. The track also featured Jonah Matranga and Holly Brook.
