Flogging Molly
The Los Angeles based Flogging Molly is a fascinating band that mixes conventional Irish music and spunky punk rock. The band is actually the creation of one man's passion to pull the gear off the track and introduce something innovative to the music grounds.

History and Band Formation
Dave King started his venture after giving several tries at different bands that didn't turned out lucky for him. A rock metal vocalist, King joined the Fastway in early '90s but switched over to other bands that eventually collapsed leaving him in middle of no where. When his deal with Epic Records required him to join as the vocalist of The Jeff Beck Group, King declined and at last started his own venture.

His Dublin-born musician, influenced by his Irish root, experimented with its native sound; however, King had some other idea rather than just sticking by one sound. Resultantly he blended the Irish traditional music with modern punk vibe. This distinct form of music unfortunately failed to impress both and it later forced both of them to go independent. Kind then met musicians who shared the same vision and approach for music. Bridget Regan who played fiddle, tin whistle, and the Irish native bagpipes, the uillean pipes soon felt a match in King and joined him in the band, so did guitarist Ted Hutt and bassist Jeff Peters. Together these four founded the band that was later called Flogging Molly. The name was actually taken from a pub called Molly Malone's where the band members used to play frequently.

They started writing content like "Black Friday Rule" and "Devils Dance Floor" but soon Hutt and Peters moved away from the band but interestingly Hutt returned back and served as the producer of the band while Peters took back prior responsibilities. Flogging Molly slowly recruited more members, while they served gigs in Los Angeles pub, to form a seven member team. Beside bassist Nathan Maxwell and guitarist Dennis Casey, accordion player Matt Hensley was added along with mandolin player Bob Schmidt and drummer Georg Schwindt.

Early Days
Flogging Molly, which was moving very unhurriedly but with a vision and a plan, at last took their music to the road; their explosive and passionate live show was the heart of the band.

Flogging Molly recorded a live album "Alive Behind the Green Door" before they signed with SideOneDummy Records that distributed their debut studio album, "Swagger". Album reached stores in 2000 as breakthrough in music industry although reception was not that warm.

Music
Flogging Molly's music is mainly influenced by bands such as The Pogues, The Dubliners, and the country twang. Their music includes many references to the Roman Catholic Church and ranges from boisterous punk rock.

Rise in Charts
After Swagger Flogging Molly released two others albums named as, "Drunken Lullabies" and "Within a Mile of Home" in 2002 and 2004 respectively. Drunken Lullabies received a mix response and remained under 100 in Billboard Albums chart; while Within a Mile of Home got tremendous response which made a dramatic rise in their career.

Crafting lively anthems King often used personal feeling in his writings such as his childhood spent in a war torn Ireland, his father's death result of the war, and an eight-year exile in the United States. This got the band very compelling lyrical content which got response as well.

The DVD documentary Whiskey on a Sunday was aired in July 2006; it was an open and casual translation of Flogging Molly as both a band and seven individuals, and came with a ten-song CD of acoustic and live tracks.

In early 2007, Flogging Molly toured with the Warped Tour, Larry Kirwan's American Fleadh Festival and contributed to the Rock against Bush project. Which earned them the optimum fame; they were able to sell more than million and half copies of recorded output.

On March 13, 2007, the Flogging Molly released an exclusive EP entitled Complete Control Sessions. Latter on after almost a year on March 4, 2008 Flogging Molly released Float, which was an album dubbed "One of the most important CDs of the year, if not the decade". "Float" really put Flogging Molly into the spotlight among the industry and their fans. The album reached the top ten positions in the Billboard 200 chart by entering at #4 after selling 48,000 copies in the first week only. At the same week, it also reached #1 on the Billboard Independent Charts and #2 on the Billboard Alternative charts.

Tours and Performances
Flogging Molly happens to tour more than the average group. The band is regularly found of the Warped Tours. Their fans still think that they do very little while fans need more. Recently they toured Australia for a very responsive performance. They have schedules of performing at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in LA on April 26th, and then a tour to Europe in May for shows in Helsinki, Stockholm, Lund, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Zurich and Milan and so on
