Details of The Flaming Lips and the Ticket Luck value
The Flaming Lips is a Grammy winning alternative rock group that was formed in 1983 in Norman, Oklahoma. The band’s instrumentals are characterized by multi-layered, rich psychedelic rock arrangements that are played to lyrical compositions reflecting space rock elements such as unusual album and song titles like What is the Light?. The band has gained recognition for its elaborate shows that often feature massive confetti amounts, giant hands, intricately structured configurations of stage light, video projections, puppets, balloons, costumes and the band’s trademark man-sized plastic bubble in which lead singer Wayne Coyne traverses the crowds. The band has been named in Q magazine in the list of fifty must-see bands. The Flaming Lips tickets, whenever they are up for grabs, are all the hype not just because of the band’s eccentric music selections but also because of its brilliant show arrangements.
The Flaming Lips currently comprise of Wayne Coyne on lead vocals as well as on bass guitar, theremin, keyboard and guitar; Michael Ivins on backing vocals, keyboards and bass; Steven Drozd on backing vocals, bass, keyboards, lead vocals, drums and guitar; Kliph Scurlock on percussion and drums and Derek Brown on percussion, keyboards and guitar. The band was formed in 1983 with Mark Coyne as the lead vocalist and Michael Ivins as the bass guitarist. The group played its debut show at the Blue Note Lounge in Oklahoma City. It saw a host of drummers until the band was joined by Richard English in 1984, after which it recorded the first and only release with Mark titled The Flaming Lips. After Mark left the band, his brother Wayne Coyne took on as the lead vocalist and the group released its first complete length album titles Hear It Is in 1986. The band recorded two more studio albums with the same lineup including Oh My Gawd released in 1987 and Telepathic Surgery released in 1989. The same year, Jonathan Donahue and English were replaced by Nathan Roberts. They then recorded the album titled In a Priest Driven Ambulance, which was their first album alongside producer Dave Fridmann, at State University of New York at five dollars an hour with a budget of ten thousand. The album reflected a remarkable expansion in the band’s sound palette where their earlier experiments with effects and tape loops took a more obvious role. By 1990, the group had caught the eye of Warner Bros. Records. They were signed rightaway after the record’s representative attended their show at which they almost burned the concert venue from the use of pyrotechnics.
The Flaming Lips have recorded many EPs and albums through indie label Restless, throughout the eighties and nineties, following which the group signed a contract with Warner Brothers and scored the hit single She Don’t Use Jelly in 1993. Though this song has been their only successful single in the United States, the group has received significant critical acclaim and a certain magnitude of commercial encouragement on albums such as their 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and The Soft Bulletin released in 1999, which was given the Album of theYear title in NME magazine. The group’s singles have been better received in Europe and the UK as compared to the US, and in 2007 they received a nomination from BRIT Awards in the category of Best International Act. The same year they were also won three Grammy Awards, from which two were in the category of Best Rock InstrumentalPerformance and one for Best engineered Album, Non-Classical. The group was nominated for two other Grammy categories both being Best Alternative Album for their studio offerings At War With the Mystics and Fight Test EP. In 2008, the band received another Grammy nomination for Best Surround Sound Album.
