Championing the Indie revolution in Canada, the Arts & Crafts Productions label is a talent house responsible for bringing some of the most gifted and successful artists to the forefront of the mainstream music industry. In 2003, Kevin Drew and Jeffrey Remedios founded the Arts & Crafts label to expedite the release of their music. However, two years later, they expanded their mission and since then they have been able to provide other musicians with an opportunity to bring their acts in the spotlight. More than a decade later, this music production house stands as one of the most influential and the biggest production houses of Canada. Rolling Stones has marked this venture as the biggest game changer in Canadian music and recognized them for the work that they have been doing for the local artists.
2013 marked the tenth anniversary of the Arts & Crafts Label, and in order to celebrate their work the production house announced the Field Trip Arts & Crafts Music Festival. The two day extravaganza was the perfect event to commemorate the work that they have been doing for the last decade. Apart from all star head liners for the concert, there were also works of arts available for display such as photographs and short pieces of fiction. The festival embodied the spirit of the label itself; it came out as a celebration of their local customs and traditions and of the community that they had formed around themselves.
The success of the festival has led to yet another music festival all set to take place in the summer of this year. The second Field Trip Music Festival, scheduled for 2014, has already confirmed some of the biggest names such as Broken Social Scene (BSS) for head liners at the two day event. BSS came on the music scene in 1999, and was fronted by Kevin Drew, the founder behind the Arts & Crafts Production house. BSS has enjoyed massive critical and commercial fame; it has four studio albums, and super hit singles that have been featured not just on the top charts, but on various soundtracks.
Joining Broken Social Scene, Interpol also comes on as a headliner act that promises good music and a great night. Interpol debuted in with a studio record in 2002, and since then they have become a force to reckon with in the underground and mainstream circles. The Kills also joins the bands as a confirmed act. The Kills came in to the spotlight with their hugely appreciated album Keep on Your Mean Side, released in 2003. They are often compared to the White Stripes though they have established themselves as a force on their own in the past years.
Apart from these, artists such as Hydra, Washed Out, Constantines and Half Moon Run will also come for the festival. Washed Out, relatively new to the scene with a studio album launching him in 2011, has fast become one of the most loved, low-key indie performers. The festival will be the perfect event for him to gather more fans and create his own niche in the market. The Constantines have been around since 1999 and their music has won them various award nominations. This year, the festival is the perfect venue for them to reunite and recreate the magic of their music.
The Arts & Crafts Production Label made Toronto the center of the music industry at a time when it was fast being overlooked as a dull space with no creative projects. Since then, not only has the label won more than twenty awards, the label has produced some of the biggest acts of today and helped create a brand out of the local music. And this year, making tradition out of what started as a tenth anniversary celebration music festival, the label is back with the two day long celebration of the best indie music . Fans of the music and the bands can now purchase Field Trip - Weekend tickets today.
