Everclear

Everclear is an American alternative rock band from the city of Portland within the Oregon state. Primarily playing and releasing alternative rock albums, this band’s music also contains influences of post-grunge and powerpop music. It has been making headlines since its founding back in 1992 and is today one of the foremost American alternative rock bands in the music industry. It has been signed onto record labels such as Capitol Records, Eleven Seven, 429 and Tim/Kerr. This is a band that has been known best for its hit singles on radio and its live appearances that draw more and more Americans as each day passes through Everclear tickets. This is a band that was founded back in the nineties and has seen a number of new members added.
 
Everclear’s original lineup was made up of vocalist and guitarist Art Alexakis, bassist and vocalist Craig Montoya and percussionist, drummer and vocalist Greg Eklund. This trio started the band and was then responsible for seeing it through some tough times to become one of the best emerging bands in alternative rock music. Everclear’s history as a band is more or less the history of its founder, Art Alexakis. He was born and grew up in the Los Angeles slums. He then moved around a lot, living with a number of relatives, and stayed in places such as Houston, Texas. He stepped into the world of music in the late eighties when he joined a local Los Angeles band, Shakin’ Brave. He then began songwriting and polished his skill to the point that he became a master in the art of songwriting.
 
Everclear’s founder, Art Alexakis, then moved to San Francisco where he started a record label and became part of the group Colorfinger. He then began writing as well as recording music under the name A. D. Nation and was responsible for writing successful songs such as Why I Don’t Believe in God and The Twistinside. He then moved to Portland, Oregon which was the hometown and his girlfriend and it was here that Everclear was formed. The first members of the band were Scott Cuthbert and Craig Montoya. In 1993, the band released the EP Nervous & Weird and the record World of Noise. After this, the band began looking for a major record label and was signed onto Capitol Records by the same person responsible for signing on bands such as Nirvana and Sonic Youth. In 1995, the band released its first studio album Sparkle and Fade with its first single being Heroin Girl. This song was featured on the MTV show 120 Minutes and was followed by the single, Santa Monica, which became very popular on Radio.
 
Everclear’s first album was so popular that it was certified platinum by the RIAA after having sold over a million copies. At this time, this band’s music was being compared to that of Nirvana and it was playing live shows alongside bands such as the Foo Fighters. In 1997, the band released its next album So Much for the Afterglow and its music was part of the soundtrack of the hit movie, Scream 2. Some songs was also part of Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann and the band then went on a US tour followed by a successful tour in Australia. This band also led to a Grammy Award nomination as well as the highly coveted Billboard Modern Rock Band of the Year Award. The album itself was certified double platinum and charted high on the Billboard album charts.
 
In 2000, the album Songs from an American Movie, Vol 1: Learning How To Smile was released and it was soon certified platinum by the RIAA. It also resulted in the hit single Wonderful and the same year, the album Songs from an American Movie, Vol 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude was released. The Everclear song, Rock Star, was part of the soundtrack of the same movie and resulted in much fame for the band.
 
Today, Everclear’s lineup consists of lead vocalist and lead guitarist Art Alexakis, rhythm guitarist Dave French, keyboardist Josh Crawley, bassist Freddy Herrera and drummer Sean Winchester. This is a band that has been the Billboard Modern Rock Band of the Year and thus definitely a band whose music is best heard live with Everclear tickets in hand.
