Since its inception, Escape has strived to recreate the magic of an original Journey concert. The rock music group has performed for thousands of fans, primarily in the clubs of the DFW metroplex. Since Escape covers both old and new songs by Journey, it is able to appeal to listeners of several age groups.
Escape has been invited to perform in many other cities in Texas as well. Escape has held immensely successful concerts in Houston, Waco and Corpus Christi and has performed at The Lake Festival in The Colony. The group has also performed at the WFAA TV's Good Morning Texas. Escape was also the headlining act at the 'American Heroes: A Salute to the Veterans' in 2009. Their list of venues also includes the House of Blues Dallas, Grover's Grill & Bar, Glass Cactus Nightclub and Tolbert's among many others.
Escape currently comprises five veteran musicians, who excel at their chosen instruments. Their dynamic and spectacular live performances in every live concert promises to give the attendees a memorable time and a fun filled experience. The lineup of the band has changed since its creation. The current members of the band include Dave Curtis, Terry Murphy, John Gurke, Joel Honea and Mike Heup.
Dave Curtis is one of the founding members of the band, and has been a Journey fan since forever. He took up piano lessons when he was only seven years old and learned to play Led Zeppelin songs. However, Dave's main interest remained the eighties pop rock music. His works show reflections of Debussy, Jonathan Cain and Jerry Lee Lewis among others. Now he plays the keyboard and performs vocals for Escape.
Terry Murphy joined Escape in 2007 as the lead vocalist. He has been playing the bass guitar since he was 14 and his repertoire includes many solo and collaborative works with several notable music acts, such as Minds Eye, Company V. and Vintage.
The band's drummer is John Gurke. The versatile artist keeps himself busy with composing, recording, performing, educating and conducting. His repertoire is influenced by a range of musicians; Bach, The Beatles, Motown and Led Zeppelin to name a few.
Joel Honea was eleven when he took up guitar and violin lessons, but it was only the guitar that could keep his interest. Even today, Joel's passion for the guitar remains the same and he continues to create incredible music out of its chords as the guitarist for Escape.
Mike Heup is the group's bassist. It has been almost two decades since Mike first started playing the instrument. His favorite genres are modern pop and rock music, but that does not stop him from playing classic tunes.
This delightful group of musicians is now coming to your city for a live performance. Make sure to get your Escape - Journey Tribute tickets before they are all gone.
