The son of a former Royal Air Force trumpeter, Elton John was born on 25 th March, 1947, at Pinner, Middlesex , England . In 1960, Elton and some of his friends, while still in school, had organized a music band the Corvettes. In a couple of years, the band evolved into the Bluesology. Two years after Elton left the school; the Bluesology came under the supervision of a renowned musician Long John Baldry and began touring cabarets with him throughout the England .

However in a little span of time, Elton John became frustrated with Baldry's control over the band. He left the group and began searching for other bands to join. He failed for the lead vocalist auditions for both the King Crimson and Gentle Giant. Then he answered an advertisement by Liberty Records. He was given a stack of lyrics by lyricist Bernie Taupin. Elton John then wrote music for the lyrics and got in touch with Bernie through the mail. Thus began a partnership that continues to this day.

Elton and Bernie, now working together, joined Dick James's DJM Records, as staff songwriters in 1968. Over the next two years, they wrote songs for pop singers like Roger Cook and Lulu, while also recording their own songs. Elton john lyrics were well appreciated by every music lover. In June 1969, Elton unleashed his first album Empty Sky for DJM. It was a disappointing failure but was a real confidence booster for Elton. With a new zeal and zest, Elton John released his second self-titled album in 1970 which started to sell well in the US . Elton John was followed quickly with the concept album Tumbleweed Connection in February 1971. It reached the Top Ten on the Billboard 200 like its predecessor, and got heavy airplay on album-oriented radio stations in the US . Elton's journey towards ultimate fame had begun.

Tumbleweed Connection was followed by the live album 11-17-70. Next was the soundtrack to the obscure film Friends and the album Madman across the Water. The door of fame and glory was opened for Elton John as all of his coming work was getting immediate esteem. He was able to start his own label the Rocket Records in 1973. In 1974, Elton engaged in a noted collaboration with John Lennon, resulting in Elton covering The Beatles's Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

He managed to appear constantly on top music charts for a long time and gave continuous hit albums to his fans. These include Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, 1975, Rock of the Westies , Candle in the Wind 1997 and an extended list of albums and songs. In 1997, he updated the lyrics of Candle in the Wind for a special version mourning the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and this became the fastest selling single of all time, eventually going on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide .

He continues to release new material to commercial success and tours extensively. Although he made an initial splash with his glitzy stage getups, it's John's effortless way with simple but memorable melodies that has won him his ongoing popularity. A range of personal and artistic problems began to take their toll around 1976, but he reclaimed a place on the charts in the 1980s. According to a 2004 BBC profile, John has the rare accolade of charting a Top 40 single every year from 1970 to 1996. It is really an achievement of sorts for Elton!
