The Eli Young Band is one of the foremost country music bands active in the US today. The Eli Young Band began at the University of North Texas, founded by James Young and Mike Eli, two roommates. They started performing together, singing and writing songs and formed the group Eli & Young. They were then joined by Jon Jones and Chris Thompson, and became a full fledged band, performing in various venues in North Texas. In 2002, they released their first album, followed by a second in 2005. By that time, they had gained national fame and were opening for artists such as Miranda Lambert.

The Eli Young Band’s third album came out in 2008 and its lead single, When It Rains, charted high on the Country Music charts, staying on theme for thirty seven weeks. It also received a lot of airplay in Denver, Seattle, Kansas City and Southern California. A second single from the album made it to the top ten of the charts, appealing to many country music fans.
In 2011, they were signed onto Republic Records Nashville and released the single Crazy Girl from their next album which was certified platinum after selling over a million copies. It also ranked first on the charts and became 2011’s Most Played Song in country music radio channels. In 2012, they received three Academy of Country Music Awards nominations for the Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Top Vocal Group of the Year. They won the Academy of Country Music Award for the Song of the Year and their next two singles ranked first on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
