Eagles Of Death Metal
Despite the name, Eagles of Death Metal is not a death metal band, but just American music band. Formed by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, the sound of the band can be described as a combination of bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals.
Eagles of Death Metal formed in Palm Desert, California in 1998 and first appeared on Josh Homme's The Desert Sessions Volumes 3 & 4. Jesse Hughes is known and loved by fans for his over-enthusiastic and charismatic interaction with audiences at live performances.
Eagles of Death Metal came up with their full length debut album, Peace Love Death Metal, on March 2004. The album appeared to be a favorite of advertisers.
Several tracks from the record were used in American television commercials including those for Ask.com, Comcast, Payless ShoeSource, Nissan Motors, Budweiser, Pontiac Motors, Wendys, as well as in the trailer for the film Thank You for Smoking. Peace Love Death Metals first single I Only Want You was also used on the soundtrack for the PS2 game Gran Turismo 4.
A manufacturer of skateboard shoes, Globe Shoes, has featured the first track in the montage section of episode 1 in their new series of skate films entitled, United By Fate.
Eagles of Death Metal returned with their second effort Death by Sexy on April 11, 2006. It was rumoured to be released in summer 2005 but was pushed back to April 11, 2006.
However, a fully produced version was leaked onto the internet prior to its release. It contained a different version of I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News). The album cover of Death by Sexy has elements similar to the covers of M?tley Crue's 1981 album Too Fast For Love and Loverboy's 1981 album Get Lucky.
The albums track Don't Speak (I Came to Make a Bang!) featured in a 2008 Nike commercial. During the first half of the year 2007, Eagles of Death Metal toured in support of The Strokes and headlined their own U.S. tour.
Later in the fall, they had an opening support slot with Guns N' Roses. The band was not well received by the crowd during the first concert with Guns N' Roses, in Cleveland. In 2008, Jesse Hughes brought up during interviews that new material has been written and their third album could be expected this year.
In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Homme has noted that the new album will be titled Heart On, as the new material had been written on their tour through the heartland, which is where they got their heart-on.
Heart On was released on October 28th, 2008 and it will be accompanied by a North American tour. To promote their album, the band scheduled a tour.
When asked about the album, Jesse Hughes stated: EODM's latest fabulous weapon, a top-secret music missile, a sonic warhead sexually tipped for her pleasure, shot from the deck of USS EODM Mantastic Fantastic.
On September 12, 2008, Pitchfork Media released new information on Heart On, including the album cover and tracklist. The album was mastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering by Brian Gardner.
The albums first track is Wannabe in LA and its video has debuted on the band's MySpace . There is an alternative version of the Wannabe In LA video dubbed the standard version, which only features Jesse Hughes.
The track Don't Speak (I Came to Make a Bang!) was used as the soundtrack for Electronic Arts' Need for Speed: Carbon. While, the track Chase the Devil from the album Death by Sexy was recently included in the soundtrack for Tony Hawk's Project 8.
Similarly, Cherry Cola is used in a Microsoft Zune commercial, and Don't Speak in Epic Movie, where the band is seen playing it live.
