The Dixie Chicks is an acclaimed country music band from the United States of America. They are known to have crossed over to various other music genres as well. The band comprises of sisters and founding members Natalie Maines (the lead vocalist), Emily Erwin Robison and Martie Erwin Maguire. If you are a fan of the band or would like to indulge in a fantastic live music concert then this is the best time for you to get hold of your Dixie Chicks tickets and enjoy an incredible event that will be truly memorable.
The group was formed in Dallas, Texas in 1989. Initially it consisted of four female musicians known for performing the bluegrass genre along with country music. They performed in several live shows as well as many bluegrass oriented music festivals and also in a few smaller venues for about six years. Yet they did not manage to score a deal with any major label. When one of the band members left the group, a new lead singer was added to the band and they effectively altered their repertoire. With this change, the band received an immense amount of mainstream success at the start of 1989 when they released mega hit singles like “Wide Open Spaces” and “There’s Your Trouble”.
A political controversy stirred up for the band when they had embarked on a London tour where the lead singer, Natalie Maines suggested ten days prior to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 that they did not wish for the violence and war and that the band was ashamed that the then President of the US, George W. Bush hailed from Texas. The British audience applauded their courage for voicing out on such a massive platform yet this resulted in a boycott of the band in their own country as the band was consistently harassed by numerous talk-show conservative hosts. Simultaneously, their albums were unfortunately discarded in a wide public protest.
The Dixie Chicks are among those bands who are famous for their upbeat music and their entertaining concerts. Their incredible live performances have led them to enjoy a massive fan following. The prestigious Grammy Award has been awarded to the band as many as 13 times. In 2007, they received five Grammy’s for Taking the Long Way. This album got the Grammy in the category of Album of the Year. In May 2013, it was recorded that 30.5 million certified copies of their albums were sold. They sold 27.2 million albums in United States. This makes the group into one of the best selling female groups and also the largest selling country music band in America from 1991 till the present.
