David Copperfield, an illusionist and musician is famous for his talents in mixing up storytelling with illusionary magic. David Copperfield was born on September 16, 1956 at Metuchen, New Jersey, to Hyman Kotkin, a New York native. Hyman Kotkin was the song of Russian immigrants and was the owner and operator of "Korby's", men's clothing shop at Metuchen.

David Copperfield started practicing magic at the age of 12 and was the youngest person in the history to get admission in the "Society of American Magicians". At the age of 16, he took up teaching a magic course at "New York University".

When he was 18 he was admitted to "Fordham University", where he adopted his stage name "David Copperfield" for a lead role in a Chicago-based musical "The Magic Man". He chose the name from the Charles Dickens famous book of the same title.

David Copperfield was also featured in the horror movie from 1982 "Terror Train". He played the role of a magician named "Ken". Later he founded an organization under the name "Project Magic". The aim of it was to heal the disabled patients through physical therapy of "sleight-of-hand" magic. In 1994, he appeared in the film "Pret-a-Potter. Most of his appearances have been made through the television programs as special guests spot. At one time, David Copperfield was determined in opening a theme restaurant under the name "Magic Underground", where D.A.V.I.D (Digital Audio Video Interface Device) would work directly with the guests present in the restaurant. It was supposed to be a high tech videophone system and the restaurants were supposed to be at two locations; Walt Disney World and the New York City. Other features that were planned were the tables to start floating while the guests sat on it and the waiters were to be trained in magic, performing magical illusions as they serve the guests. But the Walk Disney location was aborted and New York project got into a mess too.

During 1996, he teamed up with Joyce Carol Oates, Dean Koontz and Ray Bradbury for an anthology of original fiction under the magical world with the name "David Copperfield's Tales of the Impossible". Its second volume got in stores in 1997, with the title "David Copperfield's Beyond Imagination". The Forbes Magazine analysis say that Copperfield earned over $57million from it in 2003 and is the 10th most paid celebrity of the world. Another estimate says that through merchandize and tour revenue, he earned $57million in 2004 and 2005 as well.

David Copperfield was accused of raping and threatening a 21 year old woman. Copperfield denied all these allegations. During November of 2007, he was sued by his promoters for about $2.2 million, after he got out of 48 shows in result of the rape claims. He backed out from a deal of 10 performances in the United Arab Emirates and some 38 shows that were to be held at Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore in the autumn, for not wanting to answer the endless questions that would be put in front of him by the reporters.

In August 2006, David Copperfield announced that he has bought the "Fountain of Youth" on July 14 in the southern Bahamas, the water of which is going to bring the dead leaves back to life and the almost dead insects back to life too.
