Dashboard Confessional is an American band, led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Carrabba.
History
Dashboard Confessional was started in 1999, as a side project from Chris Carrabba's venture with Florida rock band Further Seems Forever. The name Dashboard Confessional is derived from one of his songs, "The Sharp Hint of New Tears," which contains the line "On the way home/This car hears my confessions." Contrary to popular belief, the name Dashboard Confessional refers only to Carrabba, as he originally intended it to be only a solo project. But Carrabba often brought along friends to play live shows with him and in 2002 he decided to make the current line-up a permanent one.
The current line-up includes Carrabba, John Lefler, Scott Schoenbeck, and Mike Marsh. Chris' friend and guitarist John Ralston and violinist Susan Sherouse often perform and record with the group. As of 2006, they have released four EPs and five full-length albums, three of which have been certified gold by the RIAA.
They won the MTV2 award at 2002's MTV Video Music Awards for their song "Screaming Infidelities".
Dashboard Confessional entered the studio to record their fourth album with Daniel Lanois. Lanois has co-produced the landmark albums So and The Joshua Tree and produced Bob Dylan's Grammy award winning masterpiece Time Out of Mind in May of 2005. "Don't Wait" was the first single released from Dashboard Confessional's latest album Dusk and Summer. Following the release of Dusk and Summer, Dashboard Confessional went on a summer tour of the U.S. with special guests Say Anything and Ben Lee.
On April 12, 2007, Dashboard Confessional performed at the Brick Awards as a featured musical guest.
Dashboard Confessional's Official website announced a fall 2007 North American solo tour with special guests Augustana and John Ralston. Dashboard Confessional has a new song on there website called "Thick As Thieves".
Live shows
Dashboard Confessional shows are known for their intimate atmosphere and enthusiastic participation from the crowds. Dashboard track that nabs the album?s title. ?I knew I?d write a song at the eleventh hour that would surmise and tie together all the pieces of the record, and that was it,? he says. ?It?s so affirming; there?s no question that it sums up the album.?
After wrapping the album, Carrabba immediately made plans to hit the road and stay there. ?It?s strange, our fan base started as college kids, got a little younger, and then went older again...and now it?s boundless,? says Carrabba. ?I think it?s because everyone is welcome. I don?t try to shape an audience; once you do that, you get in trouble.?
Despite a return, in a way, to the sounds of his past, Carrabba says he doesn't know where Dusk and Summer will lead him down the road. ?I think for the next 5-10 years, I'll still be finding my feet,? he says. ?And I think everything is cyclical. I?ll be back to me and a guitar at some point. But people are hopefully embracing what I?m doing now, whatever this thing is, this new ideas. It?s still me; I?m just taking a different avenue to get there.?
