It is said that true music knows no boundaries and nowhere is it more true than in the melodies of CocoRosie. Now you have the chance to buy CocoRosie tickets. You will come away with a newfound appreciation for this amazingly talented sister duo whose journey to success is an interesting one.
This musical collaboration comes from American sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady. They were called Coco and Rosie respectively by their mother, as a term of endearment. Ultimately, the nicknames stuck and became the name of their band when they finally formed it in Paris. Since that day in 2003, the world came to know of another version of music which has been categorized as Freak Folk. Under this genre, different influences of music including pop, blues, opera, electronic and hip hop are incorporated to produce a heady and ethereal mix.
The sisters began their musical career with Sierra handling the harp, piano, guitar as well as lending her vocals. Bianca on the other hand not only also sang, but she contributed with creative sounds that she produced using children’s toys and percussion and electronic instruments. However, as the band’s popularity and fan base expanded, a need was felt to bring in more band members to delegate instruments to.
Consequently, now the band adds other musicians such as somebody on the beatbox, keyboard and bass whenever they are playing in concerts or recording album, of which they have released five so far. These include La maison de mon reve in 2004, Noah’s Ark in 2005, The Adventures of Ghost horse and Stillborn in 2007, Grey Oceans in 2010 and Tales of a Grass Widow in 2013. You can get the full experience if you buy CocoRosie tickets.
Both the sisters were born in different places, with Bianca being born in Hawaii and Sierra in Iowa. They went through the turmoil of having to see their parents separate at a very young age. The experience left a lasting impression on the sisters. They consequently grew with their mother, who herself was an artist. It is from their mother that the sisters got their nicknames as well as their Native American and Syrian lineage.
At the age of 18, Sierra decided to move to New York and then to Paris where she tried her hand at opera singing, enrolling at the Conservatoire de Paris. It was around this time that the two sisters lost contact with each other. Bianca had also moved to New York where she fulfilled her lifelong ambition of writing and studying visual arts.
It was finally in the year 2003 that the two sisters were reunited in Paris. It was here that a memorable summer was spent in recording their maiden collaborations. These happened in the bathroom of Sierra’s apartment which both the sisters concurred had the best acoustic qualities. The final result was their debut album, titled, La maison de mon rêve which was a surprise hit with audience and critics alike. And since that day, there has been no looking back for this dynamic sister duo who are constantly pushing the boundaries on what is acceptable in music.
The life experiences of both sisters play a huge role in the soul of their melodies and you too can now dip in to the ocean of experiences through their music. If you too want to be a part of their constantly growing cult fan base, you need to buy CocoRosie tickets before they are sold out.
