The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival was started by the people behind the MeanRed Productions. They worked with the noble mission of being able "to show off Brooklyn". They believed that people didn't realize the potential of the area. Despite having experienced awesome growth since, the festival still holds true to its original mission. In fact, it is incredible fact that The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival was born only five years ago!
The Brooklyn Festival was initially contained in the Gowanus Grove (previously BKLYN Yard). In the third iteration of the festival it gained so much popularity that a larger venue was required. No wonder, the organizers have added a number of public spaces as venues from the surrounding neighborhood areas to accommodate more participants. Each year the festival attracted more and more people from all over the country. Tickets for the festival became high in demand. The NY based Luca Venezi is a sensation and a big attraction at the festival. The fusion of music styles from different genres is his specialty. This has made him is a much respected electronic producer and DJ. He has gotten high praise from aficionados like Diplo and Annie Mac. The man behind the hit remix of Kanye West's Mercy Frite Nite (Salva) will also be on show at the festival. He has been a big draw on the nationwide electronic music tour circuit including performances at Lollapalooza, Detroit Electronic Music Festival and Coachella. Derwin R. Powers's Gold Panda is another awesome UK based act that has gained much following in the current electronica scene. He has produces some funky original work blending hip hop rhythms with extended instrumentals. Next in line is Brenmar, the DJ and producer from the windy city who has won critical acclaim for his remix for the Timberlake/Beyonce number End of Time. His signature remixes hold true to the spirit of electronic music; they make you want to storm the dance floor and lose yourself in the beat and the rhythm. This year exciting new acts also been added to the lineup. Fans will find the performances of Lauren Flax, FaltyDL, Metro Area and Mykki Blanco particularly intriguing. Songwriter, producer and DJ Lauren Flax has been deeply involved over the past years with the band CREEP and tours with Fischerspooner as their live DJ. She is an accomplished member of the electronica community and has a hit like You've Changed on her portfolio. FaltyDL has been a local NY favorite for many years now. His portfolio includes elements of modern trends like dubstep and the more traditional old school jungle. At times he has even played soul, resulting in his tracks having a unique ability to immediately connect with the listener. Metro Area, is another New York area local favorite debuting at the festival. They are a dynamic duo are a now veterans of the electronic music scene. They have produced work that fuses modern electronica with classic Rhythm and Blues and bits of retro-chic disco.Last but not the least, if you have seen the video for the song Wavvy, you would want to make sure that you don't miss out on its creator Mykki Blanco. Hard core hip hop fans know him well as he takes you on a journey with his theatrical live performances, provocative lyrics and his big booming rhythms.
