Bonobo’s real name is Simon Green and he hails from England. He was always into music while growing up. His taste was never genre specific. He used to listen to hip-hp, rock, jazz and soul. The different sounds coming out of all these genres fascinated him. He made up his mind to become a professional musician pretty quickly and that has worked out for him and his fans quite well.
Bonobo first got a test of how it felt to perform as a teenager. He went on to join multiple groups during those days to get a feel of what it took to perform in front of a live audience. He began to understand the basics and started to get introduced to stuff he didn’t know before that. Those stints played a big part in him fine tuning his skills as a musician.
When Bonobo decided to turn professional he first ventured into the world of production. He started to work for and with professionals and got to understand the intricate details about being a record producer. He then carried on from there and turned stepped into the world of djing. Green came out with his first album “Animal Magic” in the year 2001. It received a lot of positive feedback from across the board especially from the critics. That was the kind of start he was hoping for. What made the success of the album all the sweeter was the fact that it was created without a lot of backing. Bonobo spent hours every day working on it and produced it himself as well. Animal Magic raised the bar and became the first downtempo release in its newest shape.The music and success of the album didn’t go unnoticed by record labels and. Green went on to sign for Ninja Tune in the year 2003 and that kick started a new, glorious era of his professional career.
His next album was titled “Dial ‘M” for Monkey” and it came out later that year. The album turned out to be another hit that received four out of five stars from Allmusic. Bonobo then went on to create “It Came from the Sea,” an album that was to become one of the albums in the “Solid Steel” series initiated by his label Ninja Tune.
And then Green released “Days to Come” in 2006. The album was a humongous hit that got nine points out of ten by Prefix Magazine. “Okayplayer” gave it three and a half stars out of five. To top it off the album went on to win the coveted Album of the Year gong at the Worldwide Awards. “Black Sands” was released in 2010 and it was an instant hit. The album took Green’s popularity to new heights and solidified his status among the best in the business. Allmusic rated it at three and a half stars while The Times went half a star further to four.
After a three year break, Bonobo released his latest creation “The North Borders” in 2013. Like all his previous albums, this one got people talking and raving about it right from the word go. Green has been a sensation from the time he first entered the music world to this very day. He is now the benchmark for others to follow.
