Formed in 1992 with members Tom DeLonge (voice, guitar), Mark Hoppus (voice, bass) and Scott Raynor (drums), Blink 182 is an American rock band from Poway, California that plays pop punk music. The story of Blink 182 begins with Tom DeLonge being expelled from a High School and joining Rancho Bernardo High School. There he became friends with Anne Hoppus with whom he shared his dreams of being a part of music band. She introduced him to her brother Mark Hoppus who had similar interests. The two boys spent hours in a garage playing music and composing new songs. It was during this that they came up with a song "Carousel". The motivation for starting a band of their own was materialized and along with another friend Scott Raynor, the three joined in on the chorus forming a band called Duck Tape. DeLonge then changed the name to Blinks. The constant hours at playing cost Hoppus his girlfriend as she wanted him to choose between either her or the band.

Blink 182 got their first demo tape Flyswatter recorded in May 1993. Having little resources, they used a 4-track to record their music giving out poor sound quality. They distributed only a small number of demos just to their family and friends. Then the band went for another recording of a demo tape which was untitled. Some of Flyswatter songs appeared in that album apart from some new songs. New songs were also included which had to be recorded again on the band's albums Buddha, Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch. Buddha was released in 1993 with around 1,000 copies of the tape produced. In 1998, the single was re-released five years later.

Cheshire Cat was the debut album of Blink 182 which was recorded in 1994 in three days. A few of the songs in this album had been part of the Buddha demo as well. The group faced legal action by an Irish band of the same name soon after that and had to attach "182" at the end to escape any charges. After the album, the group released Buddha Promo, a promotional cassette prepared to market Buddha. The band became more progressive and for their 1999 album Enema of the State, the band sought the help of producer Jerry Finn. The album was received with enthusiasm by the public including such hits as "What's My Age Again?" and "Adam's Song". The album sold over 15 million copies world over becoming the band's bestselling album.

Blink 182 earned more laurels with their album Take off your Jacket in 2001, which was a shift from their direction in Enema of the State. In the first week, the album sold more than 350,000 copies in the first week. The band's scheduled tour to Europe in winter 2001 was affected due to the 9/11 follow-up events. It was to be held early 2002 but was dropped due to DeLonge's back pains. The band shared the Pop Disaster Tour with Green Day in 2002 making headlines. After some break, they marketed a new album with their assignment Box Car Racer. On the 300th episode of The Simpsons, the group played "All the Small Things" at a party held in Tony Hawk's loft.

Blink 182 started recording its next record in early 2003. By November 2003, their fifth studio album was ready containing such hit singles as "Feeling This", "Always" and "Down". The album was designed to present a new picture of Blink 182. The group then proceeded on the "DollaBill" tour, titled since a ticket cost just $1 each. 10 club shows were held across US and one in Canada. The three members of the band appeared on stage for the first time since late 2004 at the 51st Grammy Awards ceremony. Hoppus spoke in front of the audience then "Blink 182 is back!" The band also announced plans of going on a world tour on its website the same day.
