William Ray ("Bill") Engvall, Jr. (born July 27, 1957 in Galveston, Texas) is an American comedian best known for his work as a stand-up comic and as a member of the Blue Collar Comedy group. Recurring themes in his routines are his family, his children growing up, his wife, and his low tolerance for alcohol and drugs. Engvall began his career on the sitcom Designing Women. He hit his first big break when he went on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and from there won the American Comedy Awards Comic of the Year. He then joined the cast of Delta Burke's self-titled Designing Women spinoff, which lasted for one year. He then began producing his own albums. Before becoming a well-known comedian, Engvall joined the popular talent show Star Search.

Engvall toiled in relative obscurity for several years, hitting a low point while starring as "CHUD #14" in the film C.H.U.D., until he turned his most famous routine, "Here's Your Sign," into a song by country music star Travis Tritt. The song was a hit, catapulting Engvall to comedic stardom. He appeared on The Jeff Foxworthy Show alongside best friend and fellow comic Jeff Foxworthy, with whom he starred in the hit film Blue Collar Comedy Tour. In the films and TV shows, Engvall performed his standup alongside Foxworthy, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy. More recently, he recorded a Comedy Central special. Engvall stars in The Bill Engvall Show, debuted on July 17, 2007 on TBS., it also features Tim Meadows and Nancy Travis. Bill Engvall has also been asked to go on a flight with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. He accepted and covered the happenings on his special 15 Off Cool.

His most famous routine is "Here's Your Sign" in which he proposes hanging signs on stupid people so nobody would rely on them. Engvall's criteria for getting signed is asking something stupid or obvious, to which he replies with a sarcastic remark and a "Here's your sign." On occasion, others have signed him, much to his chagrin. His "Here's Your Sign" skits have been compared to Mad Magazine artist/writer Al Jaffee's "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions".

Engvall was born and raised in Galveston, Texas in 1957. He attended Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas. He attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. Engvall dropped out of school to further pursue his career. His family moved a great deal so as a child he used sense of humor to make friends quickly. The final die was cast when in third grade he had a class play. He always wanted to be a cowboy but because the voice was still too high combined with the fact that he was a bit scrawny, he was forced to play the role of Clementine. He was always the "Class Clown" and became very good at it. He started doing comedy on stage at the Dallas Comedy Corner where he honed his skills by watching guys like Garry Shandling, Robin Williams, Jay Leno and such. After two years of doing shows in Dallas, he was ready to hit the road. They moved to St. Louis in the '84. Then he got his first big break and went to do the 'Tonight Show' with Johnny Carson. He then got another break and won the American Comedy Awards Comic of the Year. After that he got a role in the "Delta Burke Show" which ran for one year and was promptly cancelled for reasons still unknown. His first album "Here's Your Sign" was acclaimed as number one selling comedy album of 1997.
