Bill Bellamy is an American actor and stand-up comedian. He first gained national notoriety on HBO's Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam.
The eldest of three children, Bill Bellamy uses his real life experiences growing up in Newark, New Jersey as stepping-stones to his comedy.
He won a male beauty pageant after showcasing his hidden talent, Comedy, while still at Rutgers University. After winning numerous amateur competitions, Bellamy moved on to work in some of the top comedy clubs across the country.
Bill Bellamy made his national television debut when he appeared as a featured guest on Showtime at the Apollo. He came up with toughest audience in the world which turned out to be a big success for him.
The show caught the attention of comedy producers Bernie Brillstein and Russell Simmons. They signed Bill Bellamy on as a guest star of HBOs Def Comedy Jam. After Def Comedy Jam, Bellamy starred in his own Showtime comedy special BOOTY CALL. The show became one of the networks top-rated specials.
In addition to doing comedy shows, Bill Bellamy also went on to star in a number of movies. He made his feature film debut in the critically acclaimed romantic comedy Love Jones in 1997. His other movies are Fled, How to Be a Player and Any Given Sunday.
For many years, Bellamy was a staple on MTV, being a VJ and the host of several MTV programs. These programs included MTV Jamz and MTV Beach House. For five years Bill Bellamy had the unique opportunity to host MTV JAMZ. Cleverly blending an eclectic mix of street culture, locker room observations and a myriad of experiences, Bill appealed to the new generation of funny men.
MTV JAMZ was the combination of Bills professionalism, style and charismatic personality. The show scored him top interviews with some of the hottest talent in town. He continued to keep his comedy chops sharp with regular stand-up appearances at comedy clubs and arenas across the country.
His universal appeal landed him duties as a national celebrity spokesperson for both AT&T and Pepsi, while his intelligence and infectious humor landed him a guest-correspondent stint on Entertainment Tonight.
Bill Bellamy co-starred in the Screen Gems comedy hit THE BROTHERS in 2001. In the 2002-2003 television season, he starred in the FOX series FASTLANE from McG, director of Charlies Angels. He also co-hosted the prestigious Malibu MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards and the Diversity Awards with Kathy Griffin for the Multicultural Motion Pictures Association.
Also on his credits are the voiceovers that he has long been giving for other artists. He did the voice of Skeeter on the Nickelodeon television show Cousin Skeeter. He also voiced for Marcus Hill, a playable character in the 2005 updated version of the NARC video game.
A host of a stand-up comic show Bill Bellamy's Who's Got Jokes?, Bill Bellamy is currently hosting the sixth season of Last Comic Standing on NBC.
