Inspired by the legendary musician Billy Joel, Mike DelGuidice began singing Billy's songs as part of his school's vocal jazz group in the late 80s. After some years, Mike started a tribute show dedicated to Billy Joel called Big Shot. These performances led him to join a European tour. His shows feature chart-topping hits and an interactive, energetic stage performance.
Besides presenting numerous versions of Billy Joel's music, the musicians in the upcoming concert will also entertain the audiences with songs by Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Beatles, Chicago and Journey. The show will also feature original tracks from the recently released CDs of Mike DelGuidice including “My Street.” Mike has worked with Lava/Atlantic Records and also teamed up with former Billy Joel's bassist, Doug Stegmeyer for one of his albums.
Taking inspiration from The Beatles, Billy Joel decided to take up music as a profession and joined a local Long Island group. He was a part of the Echoes, which found great fame in New York in the 60s. As a member of the group, Billy started playing recording sessions in 1965.. He played sessions for two years and then joined another band, The Lost Souls and by 1967, he left it to join The Hassles. This rock n roll band released four singles and two records. They could not do well, so Joel went solo in 1972, and played piano at the Executive Room. Later that year, Joel started touring, playing at many night clubs across USA. Billy Joel then signed with Columbia Records and released his solo debut album “Piano Man”. It slowly went up the charts and reached number twenty seven. By the end of the year, Billy Joel formed a touring band and kicked off a national tour, opening for acts such as Doobie Brothers and the J. Geils Band. The same year, he released his second record, “Streetlife Serenade.” His 1978 album, “52nd Street” went straight to number one on charts and sold more than two million copies. The record featured hit songs like "Honesty", "My Life” and "Big Shot", which won him a Grammy for Album of the Year.
Although Billy Joel was not really a critics' favorite, yet he emerged as one of the finest and most successful singers by the late 70s.
