Big D and the Kids Table is a third wave ska band formed in October 1995 in Allston, Massachusetts. The band?s first release was on their own Fork In Hand Records label.

Later they were signed by Springman Records and Side One Dummy. Big D and the Kids Table has been noted for its uncommon strict DIY work ethics.

Many stories exist about the band name?s origin. One rumor that came to surface was that the band actually got their name when a friend told lead singer Dave McWane if he ever started a band he should call it Big D and the Kids Table, so he did.

At recent concert, McWane stated that the name came about because he and some friends had been playing together, but not seriously. When they were thrust onto a bill, they had no name. The event?s organizer called them Big D and the Kids Table, and it stuck.

In 2000 the group recorded a Gangsta Rap album and released it un-officially via cassette tape. It was officially released in CD through Fork in Hand in 2003.

Big D have toured on an average of 200 shows a year in support of bands like Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Dropkick Murphys, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Mustard Plug, Rancid, Alexisonfire, and Anti-Flag. The group now has become a regular performer on the Vans Warped Tour.

After the 2005 Warped Tour, Boston?s Big D and the Kids Table were ready to record an album called Chilled out, Tripped out. But before they would go into the studio, Big D were contacted by SideOneDummy Records, who were drawn to the band?s uncommon combination of strict DIY work ethic.

That DIY m.o. governed just about everything Big D have done, from engineering, producing, and releasing their own albums, which they did for the majority of their career, making their own videos, putting together their own DVD.

Now, having teamed up with SideOneDummy, Big D was ready to take things up a notch and lead ska?s next big resurgence. Their fourth full-length and SideOneDummy debut, entitled Strictly Rude, was produced by Mighty Mighty BossTones bassist and fellow Bostonian Joe Gittleman,.

The album was the product of a focused and hardworking band confident in their ability to do just that. Airtight and bird-flu infectious, the songs are the result of a solid year of writing and practicing for hours each day. Members quit their jobs in order to put everything they had into their music.

Strictly Rude is the band?s most mature work to date in terms of music and lyrics. Although some of McWane?s youthful, fun-loving lyrical stylings remain yet the sounds of a piano, organ, and melodica rub up against the familiar horns and guitars.

From the catchy, dancy album, opener ?Steady Riot? to the ominous minor-key creepiness of ?Snakebite? to the slower, sunny ?Shining On?, which wouldn?t sound out of place on a Lily Allen record. Strictly Rude is truly an album that?s as sophisticated as it is pleasing, as adventurous and experimental as it is fun.

Most importantly, the album is a deeply candid effort that was shaped by an incalculable amount of effort, energy, thought, and love. In the fall and winter of 2007, Big D began their first-ever large scale headlining tour, The Steady Riot Tour.
