Recently, it has staged the works by Michael Zev Gordon, Thomas Ades, Magnus Lindberg, Charlotte Seither, Tristan Murail and Colin Matthews. On April 13th, 2015, the orchestra will be performing at the Kravis Center - Dreyfoos Concert Hall in West Palm Beach, FL. The BBC Symphony Orchestra was founded by Adrian Boult in 1930 and since then, it has contributed a lot to British music industry. As Barbican's associate orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra performs there annually. The 2013-2014 season of the BBC SO features six concerts with Britten's War Requiem and Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo, in Albert Herring at the Barbican and the Royal Albert Hall. The orchestra works frequently with Semyon Bychkov, Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo, Gunter Wand Conducting Chair and Conductors Laureate Sir Andrew Davis. The BBC Symphony Orchestra also records for many commercial labels. It tours across the world, and during its upcoming season it will stop by Japan, Qatar, Switzerland, South Korea and Taiwan.
As one of Britain's leading orchestras, the BBC SO also provides several educational programs across the country. The BBC SO Plus Family scheme is one of its ongoing projects, with a purpose of introducing people to live, classical music. The orchestra is also part of the Student Pulse program, which is started in collaboration with several London venues and orchestras. In addition to that, the BBC SO is known for its works on shows like Not the Messiah, BBC Proms, BBC; The Voice of Britain and He's a Very Naughty Boy.
The orchestra has been led by a number of different conductors ever since its inception. Some of these are, Malcolm Sargent, Antal Dorati, Colin Davis, Pierre Boulez, Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Andrew Davis. Currently, Sakari Markus Oramo serves as the orchestra's Finnish conductor. He began his career as a concertmaster and violinist of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Oramo was called Principal Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for conducting the CBSO in two concerts. Apart from having a major position at the BBC SO, Oramo also continues to work with other orchestras. His year's engagements include performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorcheste and Wiener Philharmoniker.
Oliver Knussen is the Artist-in-Association of The BBC Symphony Orchestra and was appointed for the position in 2009. Oliver has contributed a lot to the music industry over the years, and his music is recognized worldwide. In addition to his solo career, Oliver has also enjoyed collaborations with several distinguished composers. In 2006, he received Nemmers Prize from Northwestern University and the Selection Committee cited him "as a profoundly influential composer, conductor and educator of today's musical culture."

He is a contemporary composer, conductor and violinist from Australia. Brett was Australian National Academy of Music's Artistic Director in Melbourne.
