Asking Alexandria is the manifestation of an idea conceived by Ben Bruce, the group’s lead guitarist. Ben was in Dubai when he created his own band and named it Asking Alexandria. The group came out with an album The Irony of Your Perfection but broke up shortly afterwards. Bruce then made his way back to his native United Kingdom in 2008. Once back home he recruited some new faces and restarted the group with the same name. Immediately afterwards they group embarked on their first major road trip. Once the tour ended in 2009 they hit the studio to work on their debut release.
The group spent just over a month at The Foundations Recording Studio. Joey Sturgis took over as the producer. Not a long while after the completion of the album the band signed a recording agreement with Sumerian Records. That enabled Asking Alexandria to properly market the album which was titled Stand Up and Scream. It hit the music stores everywhere on 15th September, 2009. It was an immediate critical hit that was given eight and a half stars out of ten by Ultimate Guitar. The group made a concerted effort to make its presence felt in the US and for that they spent the rest of the year touring at various cities of the country.
Asking Alexandria released a statement that work was scheduled to commence on their next album at the start of 2010 but for one reason or another that plan got put-off. It was in June, 2010 that the group entered the studio to start working on their latest creation. In between they found the time to kick start another tour of North America. The next leg of that tour was schedule for various parts of Europe which was to be their first major road visit to the continent. After a few more headlining tours, Asking Alexandria began to promote Reckless & Relentless relentlessly. Bruce gave various interviews where he dwelled in length about that the album was and what it stood for.
Reckless & Relentless was released on 5th April, 2011. The album made its way into the top ten on Billboard 200 and went as high as capturing third spot on US Indie charts. It also generated a lot of positive response from critics as well. Renowned critical outlets like Allmusic and Revolver both gave it four stars out of five. The album was the recipient of eight stars out of ten from Rocksound and Ultimate Guitar. The release of Reckless & Relentless was closely followed by the group’s first appearance on national television. They made their way to the stage of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and performed Closure and Someone, Somewhere.
The group is now working on their next release which is scheduled to come out in 2013. Such is the hype surrounding its impending arrival that Revolver Magazine has put the album in its 2012 list of the Most Anticipate Albums. That fact alone is enough to show how revered Asking Alexandria is these days and how far they have come since their formation. The band have become stars and if they keep on going like they have then sky is the limit.
