Andrew Dice Clay is known for his most controversial and hardcore style of stand up comedy. Clay was born on September 29, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York and was named Andrew Clay Silverstein, however on stage he more commonly known as Dice or Diceman.Clay's comedy usually contains profanity and the explicit content regarding human sexuality, race and sexism.
During his time, he was the first one to put up this kind of comedy in front of audiences in a stand up act, of which influence was later taken by the comedians like Jim Florentine and Jeff Duran.
Due to profanity found in his comedy, Clay was banned from MTV as well as he was boycotted by the likes of Nora Dunn and Sinead O'Connor, who found his comedy to be more offensive than it was funny.
Clay also hosted Saturday Night Live on which Nora Dunn and Sinead O'Connor appeared both as guests and cast members before they boycotted him.
Clay also portrayed the role of Ford Fairlane, which was his first appearance in any feature film and also one of the most remarkable one. The movie was titled The Adventure of Ford Fairlane and was released on July 11, 1990.
Clay plays the role of a guy, who after being beat in the music industry moves on to become a private detective. Initially the movie didn't get a warm welcome by both the critics and audiences, and didn't fetch much of a financial success as well.
However in the 90's era, the movie was perhaps the biggest hit in countries like Hungary, Norway and Spain. Following its success in these countries, the movies also came out on DVD in early 2000.
His Comedy double album 'The Day the Laughter Died' was released on March 14, 1990, same year his first feature film was released. The album comprised on two Discs, and had 21 songs on Disc 1, while 20 songs on Disc 2. Prior to that Clay released his debut album a year before in 1989, which was titled Dice.
The album was produced by Rick Rubin and was later was considered Clay's one of the most notable works. The album was recorded during an unadvertised performance of Clay in a club owned by 'Rodney Dangerfield'.
This was the time when Clay was at top of his game, and went on making quite a number moderately popular T.V and movie appearances. But as the time flew by, his stand up acts started fading as his comedy broke the all the barriers down.
This was the time when his downfall initiated. Following his downfall, he moved to Florida along with his wife and two sons and started earning his living by running Gold's Gym. Clay also went through a therapy during that time.
Clay came back as he appeared in another sitcom titled Bless This House in 1995. At that time he dropped his middle name 'Dice' from his name due to a clause in his contract with CBS Network. He later also said that Diceman was just one of his act, and the material that he used was only meant for comedy.
After reaching the height of success Dice had a downfall from which he wasn't able to recover until 2007, when he returned with his reality TV show called 'Dice: Undisputed'.The series was premiered on March 4, 2007 on VH1 with each episode having the running time of 30 minutes.
The show depicts Clay's struggles that he makes to come back out of his downfall and regain his popularity that he once had. The first episode that was premiered on March 4 was titled 'The Book Episode'.
Andrew Dice Clay is currently not only struggling to claim his popularity back but also with his two sons, one is 11 and other is 16, and a fiancee who happens to be a former female wrestler.Clay got engaged to her during before his marriage was broken.
Dice came out of retire with one goal on his mind, and that is to perform in front of a sell out crowd in the Giants Stadium. It's a feat that is not even thought of by any other comedian.
With his eyes set on his ultimate goal, he is making small steps towards it by performing in some of the most renowned clubs nationwide, and apart from that he is also writing a book while working on another one of his album.
