Born on November 18, 1948 in New York City, Andrea Marcovicci was exposed to the arts from a very young age. Her mother, Helen Stuart, was also a singer, and she perhaps received the earliest inspirations to sing from her. Her father, Eugene Marcovicci worked as a physician and an internist. Although she always aspired to be a singer, when she attended college, she decided to major in drama instead. When questioned about her change in heart, Andrea Marcovicci admits that it was perhaps not the path she wanted to continue on. Her days as a theater student were not her favorite. She felt that the theater community or the profession in particular was too intense and heavy. She commented on how she felt that some people are just born with the love for theater; that the love for theater is inherited rather than developed. She felt at odds with the demeanor of the profession in general. Moreover, she felt that she could not be successful in this field of the arts at all. Studying theatre was a discouraging time for her. She recalls how at this time she felt defeated and beaten down all the time, because it was simply not her cup of tea. She did, however, enjoy being an actress. Thus she began her singing career to put her foot through the door to Hollywood.
Therefore, Andrea Marcovicci decided to leave school and embark onto her new course of action-starting a career in singing. In her early years as a singer, she appeared on 'The Mery Griffin Show' and the 'Mike Douglas Show'. Soon, she began her acting career as well. She started first by appearing in commercials to become familiar with sets and camera work. Later on, she obtained the role of Dr. Betsy Chernak Taylor in 'Love is a Many Splendored Thing', a popular television opera that she worked in from 1970 to 1973. In 1976, she appeared in one of her first feature films, 'The Front'. In the movie, she played Woody Allen's girlfriend. The movie had gained quite the popularity. Her appearance in the film, too, gained attention and much critical approval. Later in the year, she received a Golden Globe nomination for 'New Star of the Year'. This was perhaps what solidified her place in the industry as a real working actress.
She had also gained prominence by appearing in the 1974 film, 'Smile, Jenny, You're Dead'. Her acting skills were deemed innovative and fresh as she gave her own spin on the seemingly predictable damsel-in-distress role. She also appeared as a recurring character in 'Hill Street Blues'. She was also cast in 'The Incredible Hulk'. She was also in 'Magnum P.I.' and 'Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone'. She also worked with Danny Devito in the movie 'Jack the Bear'.
