The biggest selling female rock artist in music, Alanis Nadine Morissette is a Canadian-born singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress.

Morissette has sold over 55 million albums worldwide, winning 12 Juno Awards and seven Grammy Awards. She started her music career in Canada and in February 2005, she became a naturalized citizen of the United States while maintaining her Canadian citizenship.

Alanis Morissette began playing the piano when she was only 6. In 1984, she wrote her first song, ?Fate Stay with Me', which she sent to a local folk singer, Lindsay Morgan. She released it as a single via a label she founded with Morgan.

At a New York City audition, Morissette landed a spot on ?Star Search' where she used the stage name of Alanis Nadine. Sadly she lost after one round. In 1988, Morissette signed a publishing deal with MCA Publishing. 2006 marked the first year in the recorded history of her musical career.

As a teenager, Morissette recorded two dance-pop albums, Alanis and Now Is the Time, under MCA Records. Her international debut album was the rock-influenced Jagged Little Pill, which turned out to be the highest selling debut album worldwide in music history, selling 30 million records worldwide.

Her following album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, was released in 1998. It too got off to a success. Morissette would take up producing duties for her following albums like Under Rug Swept, So-Called Chaos and Flavors of Entanglement.

On April 1, 2007, Morissette released an ironic cover of The Black Eyed Peas's selection ?My Humps'. She recorded it in a slow, mournful voice, accompanied only by a piano. Besides, she performed at a gig for The Nightwatchman, a.k.a.

Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave fame in Los Angeles in April 2007. In early 2008, she embarked on a tour with Matchbox Twenty and Mute Math as a special guest.

Morissette's seventh studio album, Flavors of Entanglement, was released in mid 2008. To promote the album, she is all set to embark on a North American headlining tour.

The album's first single was ?Underneath', a video was subjected to raise the level of human consciousness on the earth. As of May 2008, she was also halfway through writing a memoir focusing on women's issues and will have chapters on sexuality, beauty, relationships and work.

In 1993, Morissette appeared in the film titled Just One of the Girls. Later in 1999, delving into acting again, she appeared as God in the Kevin Smith film Dogma and contributed the song ?Still' to its soundtrack.

She also appeared in the hit HBO comedies Sex and the City and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and starred in the plays like The Vagina Monologues.

In late 2003, Alanis appeared in the off-Broadway play ?The Exonerated' as Sunny Jacobs. Expanding her acting credentials, she starred in the Cole Porter biographical film De-Lovely.

Together with a number of other celebrities as an initiative to support Tibet, Morissette participated in a music album called Songs for Tibet in 2008. The album appears at the same time as the start of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.
