Formed in 1970 in Sweden, Abba was launched into the musical stratosphere by Benny Anderson, Björn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad and Agnetha "Anna" Fältskog. Throughout the decade from 1972 to 1982, there was no stopping the Abba musical engine that powered through pop charts all over with a cornucopia of numbers contained within a repertory of 8 studio albums and 9 compilation ones as well as a live one and trio of box sets that have entailed more 375 million in record sales. Such a cascade of sales pits them as the "second most-successful pop band", with The Beatles being the all-time champions, and right after Elvis Pressley, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin and Queen. This was a significant achievement on their part when one considers that they were non-native English speakers to begin with and all the other artists in the higher selling echelons hailed from either the United Kingdom or The United States. With their self-titled third studio offering, Abba said "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" to their marriage of music and mania and swept the music industry with numbers such as "SOS" and "Mamma Mia," all three becoming chart topping songs in major countries. As the music flowed out in a barrage of records all throughout the 1970s, the plethora of platinum and gold certifications kept on rolling in, as did the awards, more than two dozen strong. Abba was dutifully honored in 2010 with inductions into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
