His next album in 1996 was an A&M release titled as Bluemoon. The album was no different than his previous albums on the success meter. In 1997, Keith collaborated with the Beach Boys for their album Stars and Stripes for backing vocals and harmonies followed by his own album "Dream Walkin". The best thing about the album was its duet I 'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying with Sting. "How do you Like Me Now" was his next album which outdid all the previous records by becoming his first multiplatinum country music album. The singles How Do You Like Me Now?, You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This and Country Comes to Town stayed at the top positions on the US country charts for a while.

In 2002, Keith released "Unleashed", which became one of the best albums of his career. The top ranking singles of the album made him a bigger star than he ever was. Singles like Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue, Beer for My Horses and who's Your Daddy gave him his much desired claim to fame. The political nature of the songs did follow certain controversies but in end he came out clean. He has released a couple of albums afterwards including his latest release Bullets in the Gun. Other albums include American Ride, That Don't Make Me a Bad Guy, Big Dog Daddy, White Trash with Money, Honky Tonk University and Shock 'n Y'all. Keith has also come up with two Christmas albums; A Classic Christmas and Christmas to Christmas.
