Daughtry is an American post-grunge band from North Carolina, formed in 2006 by former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry. Their self-titled debut album was released on November 21, 2006. The disc reached #1 for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, outsold Idol winner Taylor Hicks' debut effort, and sold more than 3 million copies. Their album is also the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan history.

History
Chris Daughtry stated that he would form a new band after turning down Fuel's offer to make him their lead singer. On July 10, 2006 it was announced that Chris had signed with 19 Entertainment and RCA Records. Chris is a singer-songwriter himself and has collaborated with several other songwriters, such as Ed Kowalczyk, Carl Bell, Brad Arnold, Rob Thomas, Mitch Allan, Brent Smith and Chad Kroeger. Hit writers Dr. Luke and Max Martin also lent their expertise to the album. Josh Freese played drums on all the tracks for the album.

Daughtry himself didn't have much of a hand in who was in his new band. Chris's label chose band mates for Daughtry: Jeremy Brady, Josh Steely, Josh Paul, Joey Barnes. Interestingly, two of the band members hail from North Carolina.

The first single from the album, "It's Not Over," debuted on the radio on December 6, 2006. The self-titled debut album was released on November 21, 2006, by 19 Entertainment and RCA Records. The song was an instant success, shooting up the Billboard Hot 100 reaching #4 and hitting the top 3 in several other charts. "It's Not Over" bears a somewhat strong resemblance to Fuel's hit song "Hemorrhage?. Jeremy Brady's departure from Daughtry was announced on January 26, 2007.

The second single from the album, "Home" is currently at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, after debuting at #83 weeks ahead of its official release to radio. The song was also the official "kick off" song on sixth season of American Idol.

The band released their third single, ?What I Want", to Rock Radio on April 23, 2007. The song features Slash on lead guitars. It has peaked in the top 5 on the Rock charts. Their song "There and Back Again" is the official theme song for WWE Backlash 2007.

On June 21, 2007, their debut album was certified Triple Platinum. The band's fourth single "Over You" was released July 24th. The band performed this single live on Good Morning America on June 1, 2007.

Daughtry has engrained itself in the digital domain so seamlessly, pulling in over one million page views per week to their artist site www.daughtryoffical.com , with their album remaining a Top 10 staple on iTunes since its release. The debut single It's Not Over,has conquered every digital, mobile, radio and video platform imaginable, including #1s on the Adult Top 40 chart, on the Hot AC chart and the Billboard Top Singles chart. The video reigned at the top of VH1's extremely popular Top 20 Countdown show for two months running, as well as acquiring most played status on MTV.
