Yountville has a rich historic culture. The city traces its roots somewhere in 1800"s when the Town of Yountville was owned by Mexico. Officially incorporated as the city in Napa metro area, Yountville has taken its name after George Calvert Yount who is the first white settler in the Napa Valley.

He settled in this area in 1831 and got the land grant from the Mexican government in 1836. He was the first United States citizen to receive such grant in northern California and the Napa Valley. Yount named the land Caymus Rancho after a tribe of Native Americans in the area.

In the early 1850"s, Yount laid out the boundaries for the town and finalized its layout. He initially named the town Sebastopol but it was changed to Yountville after his death in 1867. Despite being the founder of the town, Yount also contributed in different aspects of town"s development. He planted the first grape vines in the valley for which the town is famous today.

The old rail station of the town was constructed when in 1868; railroad service was introduced into the town. It influenced the town"s configuration in a great way and made its reachable for many important people that played great role in town"s development.

One such figure is Gottleib Groezinger who purchased twenty acres of land here in 1870. Within four years, he built a winery, barrel room and distillery.
