York is a city located in South Central Pennsylvania. It is also known as the White Rose City after the symbol of the House of York It was also a keystone state economically, having both the industry common to the North making such wares as Conestoga wagons and rifles and the agriculture common to the South producing feed, fiber, food, and tobacco. It is also nicknamed as the Quaker State. It is one of the original Thirteen Colonies forming the United States. The honor of hosting Declaration of Independence also is with this state and along a few very important other ones. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of York has a total area of 5.3 square miles (13.6 km?), of which, 5.2 square miles (13.5 km?) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km?) of it (1.14%) is water. The weather is typical that of any North Eastern city of USA with long cold winters and short warm summers. As per the 2000 census, the population of York was 40,862 54% of which is made up by Whites, about 35% by Blacks along with other smaller proportions of communities. The Rabbit Transit bus service has made all the nooks and crannies of York available for everyone. Trains are also very accessible.
National Street Rod Association Street Rod Nationals East which is hosted by the York Expo Cener, is the biggest annual street rod event in the Eastern United States of America. The occasion brings several thousand people onto the streets in the scorching heat of June. The parade held on Fridays feature the vehicles of the city. The York County Heritage Trust (YCHT) if a farewell educational institute which is determined to preserve the treasures of the city's rick cultural heritage, museums and historic sites to encourage exploration of the history and culture of York County, Pennsylvania. It has taken upon itself to maintain some 8 sites of historic value and preserve some good 300 years of the local history. The YCHT provides lots of entertainment throughout the year. Being home to the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, York gets its share of entertainment. The Art Centre brings a number of world renowned artists like Kenny G, BB King, B?la Fleck etc the city. The local theater, the Capital Theatre also features many of the country's independent as well as foreign films. The culture of today's York is an epitome of its role as the hub of all agriculture and local industry. And this is exactly what the York Fair tries to portray. It is one of the oldest festivals which is said to be around since 1765. For 10 days in September, that is a whole week along with 2 weekends; the city comes alive and baths in the color festivities of the fair.
Apart from the conventional fair attractions like contests, games, rides etc. what really sets apart the festival is the honor of hosting many musical artists, such as Back Street Boys, Daughtry, Staind, Jeff Foxworthy and the American Idols Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and David Cook. It is impossible to determine whether art loves York more or York loves art more.
